There was one Jaguar that had a head unit with a switch on the back or side that you could choose between 'premium' or 'except-premium'.

I don't remember if it was the X202 or the X400? Maybe the X350?
Been a long time since I worked at the dealer and did things like that everyday.

Firstly fitting a NAV screen head unit in a car without the NAV screen is not a relistic option.

As far as I know I think 2005 MY or newer head units should be plug and play with either premium or non-premium as it should be factory set to auto detect what modules are on the D2B network.
However with before 2005 MY head units you will need to access the hiden menu on the NAV screen version to activate each module or if it is the non-nav screen you will need to use the jaguar IDS software to change the options. (I am not so sure about fitting a pre-05MY non NAV head unit in a 05MY onwards car as IDS will not work on a 05MY car so SDD will have to be used on 05MY cars.)

So in short:

If you do not have a NAV screen you can not fit a nav screen. (Or the other way around.)

There is no differance between the head units if they are Premium sound or not.
If you fit a new head unit that is from a 05MY or newer car it should automaticlay adjust to the car it is fited in to. (A previoulsy premium unit will auto change to non premium.)
If you fit a new head unit from a pre-05MY car it will need re-programing.

Please note that I have not tried this myself so the above info. may not be correct. Others may know more.

If you want to change the car from standard to premium sound you will also need to fit the amp and the premium speakers, including the sub's in the rear parcel shelf.

Mellow
