Header tank no bleedsrew?
Hi Guys,
Any help would be appreciated. I have a 1999 s type 4.0l I had a header tank fitted but cant seem to bleed the system I read in another post about a bleed screw need the master cylinder but I dont have one. My new tank only has two hoses one below one above, so no third hose near the master cylinder. I cant find any way to get the air out I have tried running the engine from cold with the cap off but no luck dont know what else to do so please any help would be great.
Regards Derek

Header tank -------- bleed screw???
I'll ask the dumb question to prompt some replies from the model experts!
Is this the 'Header Tank' as in the cooling system or 'Fluid Reservoir' as in the braking system?

Hi Guys
Thanks to all for the help unbelievable I only posted a little while ago and so many replies thanks a bunch, I only have two hoses on my expansion/header tank I asked the mechanic that fitted it, one on the bottom and one from the top of the 9kn or whatever the torque setting is on the allen key screw at the front where you top up the water when starting to refill. There is definitely no bleed screw on the return. What I have done is run the engine with the cap off and massage the return pipe (yes its burned my fingers) the tank did overflow a few times but i presumed this is the air expanding doing that. Now it is on cooldown cycle but i do think it is beginning to work, there is a start of heat coming from the heater so I will keep you informed. Many thanks again you are a credit to this forum, at last I have found a place to belong.

Tha bleed hose has to be there - this is the only way to properly bleed the cooling system (and keeping your fingers intact also) Sometimes this bleed hose is tucked in really good between the master cylinder and coolant expansion tank. This hose is the highest point in the cooling system (even higher than the thermo housing fill cap) - find that hose, unscrew carefully with a large - flat blade screwdriver - search the forum regarding "bleed procedures", follow instructions, be careful and you should be all set. Don't overtighten - there should be a mark on the plastic screw cap and hose - match them up!

$940 to fix heater valve and thermostat:<<<
Hi Guys,
Just an update on my overheating problem. Took the baby into a local European specialist, the trouble was diagnosed as a faulty thermostat and a faulty heater valve, it was pressure tested a new gasket was put on the water pump, and the final total was $ 940. Yes the bank balance has taken a hit in fact its empty.
