Default Heated front screen

Well im two months into my s-type ownership and am pretty please with the car. Have discovered a few niggly little problems as you do with a used car but the only one bugging me is the heated front screen only works in a few sections an inch or so wide, about 4-5 of them. Is this a new screen jobbie or something simple?

Sounds like a new screen.

This list is mainly US based. Nor many cars exported to the US got that option. So not many posting about this. If it is the windshield and you get it replaced please post the part number and cost to help the next guy out.
I think it's probably pretty expensive!!

I think there are two fuses for left and right, is it just random strips that are working?

Mine has that kind of screen (may be standard here for the STR) and it was replaced but over here most people wouldn't use a dealer to do that (as with mine) so no idea what the part # was, or even if it's a jag part (I doubt it).

I have that option and love it.

How do you know it's not working? Do you already have frost on the windows. I've tried to feel mine to sense the heat and I can't do it.

The dealers here don't replace glass. They'll sub it out to a glass specialist who will procure the glass and put it in. After checking the fuses as suggested, then I'd ask the jag dealer who they use to solve a glass problem.

On some cars the heated section only covers the part where the wipers park.

I have a heated screen on mine and noticed that fewer and fewer of the embedded wires work as time passes. Be d*mned if I'm going to fork over $1500 for a new windshield that will do the same thing in a few years.

Even when working perfectly, it's not of much help during -20*C weather.

My STR has the heated front screen as well, and like yours, I've got some lines that work and others that don't. Dealer says this can happen and the only fix is a new screen, which they don't do. If the fuses went you should have half working or none at all (there's a fuse for left and right side). Lucky for me I recently got a nice big stone chip in mine so I'm gettting the whole thing replaced under insurance (first time I've been glad to get a chip!). Also, I find my screen works great in the cold weather (-40*C, -20 would be a lovely day!) it just takes longer to work. The cost upfront for one of these screens is around $1200 according to my shop.

Default Over $950 in Canada

I had my 03 done by "a friend of a friend in the autoglass business" but he had to get the OEM part which is made by Pilkington's in the UK. He originally sourced a cheapie but it turns out it was not the fine wire complete screen but just the heated wiper area one. I have the auto wipers and auto dimming mirror so the screen has a big black bit in the middle at the top.
Part alone was over $950 but in the long run, it was worth it especially here in Toronto.

most windsreens in the US are only heated wiper park area where the wiper rests. This is they dont FREEZE to the windscreen and get damaged. Thats left for the ice on the windscreen to do as you use the wipers foolishly to try and clean ice or crusty snow off. THIS will do the damage but not the wipers freezing to the windscreen by GOD!!!

Must be the seemingly endless cold weather we get that made jag fit the fully wired & heated screen to STRs here. I'd swap for better weather!!

I have the fully heated windscreen. What's more, it wasn't called out in the "Moroney" (Is that what it's called?). It's clearly factory installed but it was a freebie as none of the option groups even called for it. We just enjoy the results.
