Default Heavy coolant leak!

Hi everybody!

Today I got "low coolant level" message,I pulled over and checked coolant tank level and is was very low.I noticed that coolant dripping from the bottom of the car. I checked all hoses that I can see and reach, but everything was ok,no leaks,so I filled expansion tank it with coolant and drove the car to Jag dealer to let them find out where was a leak and they found it! They said I need to replace seal between intel housing and block. They quoted $1500 for the job!

Is this so difficult job? Maybe I can fix it myself?

It says on the quote like this "replace seal between inlet housing and block".I checked on cooling system diagram and I think they meaning "engine coolant inlet" and block.

Sounds like the infamous STR coolant leak. To bad you are not located near the Charlotte area! I am still dying to have a go at one.

Its a long process to change out the hose located under the manifold, many posts about it here.

I'll call tomorrow some local shops to get quotes from them.
How and why does this happened? Yesterday I was to balance my front wheels at Pet Boys and I asked to do suspension evaluation and after that I just went home and didn't drive it til this morning...It's just coincidence or Pet Boys could damage this hose somehow?

Probably coincidence as its a common problem on our cars. $1,500.00 is a fair price at an indy shop, it's a great price from the dealership. I thought about tackling the job myself but I didn't have the time. I paid an indy shop about that much....

Does this job involve SC removal to reach the leakage point?

I purchase parts and supplies from Pep Boys but I would not trust them to check my tire pressure much less perform an alignment or wheel balance. You may want to find a more experienced shop....

I agree with Jon89 lot of bad experiences with Pep Boys service.

Also be aware that Jaguar changed the front end alignment specs after the car was released. Brutal our resident Jaguar tech has said most alignment charts still are showing the old numbers.

If you do a search you will find the updated specs. Most likely someone like Pepboys has no clue about your car. I would not take it back to them ever again. You will be far ahead to find a good independent garage. Hopefully before you have problems.

Otherwise you will continue to have the problems you are seeing now. They simply don't know anything about your car.

Pet Boys just balanced my 2 front wheels,no alignment ..
Today I took my leaking car to my Indy to check what he can do and how much. After couple hour he called me with the price, and it more than a half less than dealers price. His labor price was $700,extra for new gaskets, seals and all hoses, only $170.Only one bad news that all ordered parts will at the shop on Tuesday.
It seems boring weekend coming without my car
