Default Help.......

OK- I have a problem... I need to replace the coolant reservoir but I am not sure what coolant to put back in there??? I have read past threads and have not found anything that tells me what is the best coolant alternative to the one from the dealer!! There are so many mixed suggestions- does anyone have a definate answer? Any input is appreciated... ps. my coolant is currently orange, 3.0, V6 S Type.

Everything is ok. You want the orange coolant available at most auto part stores.

Question

Thanks for your reply but I am not convinced based on past articles on here about just any orange coolant. I still don't know what to do...

In my past experience with Audi's the orange coolant is Pentosin. I usually buy from Blauparts.com. not cheap.

I think Androulakis (George) posted about Zerex so Search should find you details. Maybe G05.

To search on a short word, see https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...le-site-60209/

Ok so I just called my jag service center and they told me they do not recommend any other coolant to only use Jag coolant (shocker) and it is $48 a gallon. I asked about the Zerex G 05 and the parts person I spoke with said he has not heard anything about that being compatible. Your input is appreciated!! Thanks everyone. ( ps- I find this frustrating)

cagsjag, orange coolant is orange coolant. Zerex (orange) for $15? is what I and many here run in their Jags. So cut the c#%p and fill her up (smile)...unless you want to give $45 to Jag for the same crap?

That's a good price for the reservoir. I think I paid $120. Thanks.

Update: Bfsgross - don't yell!! (laughing) I found OES Jag coolant on the web for $12.95 a liter. Not sure if that is a good price or not but I ordered it. I will update my findings once I receive it.

That's actually more expensive than purchasing the five-litre container from Jaguar at about $45 in our neck of the woods....

Default $60+ for a gallon of "orange coolant"?

CagsJag, now instead of $48/gallon, you paid $50/gallon for Zerex "orange coolant"...add shipping...$60 for a gallon of the same crap as Zerex (orange coolant). CagsJag, read carefully; I now hold a ficticious "Power of Attorney" over your life and command you to cancel the $60 gallon of "Orange Koolaid". In the meantime you will go to Walmart to purchase the same orange crap Jag wants you to believe is theirs...it's all re-labeled "Orange Koolaid" CagsJag. Till you're weaned of the green; don't buy anything unless you consult with "Us" first. You hear?! (smile). Yikes...?

Seth thats a good price for the STR reservior. The STR and the 3.0 are different. I did mine and paid about that and I looked everywhere. I also did Joels who has a 3.0 and it was cheaper then mine cause its a smaller tank. So you both got pretty good prices.

I actually still have some Audi coolant from my A8 and that stuff is way overpriced but I was hesistant to add anything else to it cause it was the pink coolant. I didn't want to find out if I was gonna have a gelled up coolant system like the GM thing back when the orange first came out. I run Dex-Cool in mine and havent ever had a problem. One day I will probably flush it and run Zerex G05 but it sucks not being able to find it locally here.

Don't Walmart and Napa carry it in your region? Napa sell the full strength for less than Walmart sells the prediluted. So, Walmart is not always cheapest. (After flushing, you need the full strength to overcome the dilution factor of the plain water that remains in the system from flushing.)

It seems Zerex/Valvoline is the only mainstream aftermarket coolant manufacturer in North America that is clear about which coolant is which. Prestone for sure has become very vague about their coolant formulations.

@OP -- ignore this post, it is about the amber G-05 formulation which is not orange.

I wish. I called every Walmart near me and they had never even heard of Zerex which was a little unsettling. I checked 5 of them within driving distance to me and non of them had it. I checked every auto parts store and even the speed shops which I will never go to for anything after talking to them and they were looking at me like I just asked them to calculate pi. If I want it I have to order it online.

School. LOL. Pretty busy semester. I ride my bike everywhere to save miles and gas on the STR. The STR has become a once a week to once every 2 week vehicle for me. Makes me love it more though cause when I get in it its like revisiting an old friend. I've had to fix some stuff on the bike so I had been lurking their boards for a bit to get some info for fixing. Now that I got that fixed 2 weekends ago I can come back here and post. Just to show you what I had to deal with last Sat.

Default Antifreeze~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For my 04 STR I go by the Ford spec WSS-M97844-D. Most likley good for
all Jags requiring orange Longlife product. I use Prestone extended life.

I use Dexcool in mine. About 12 per gallon. I buy the 50 percent formula because I end up topping it off about every month or so. Jags are notorious for leaking coolant.
