Hi I am proud to say I just purchased my first Jaguar it is a 2003 Jaguar S type with 66000 miles on it. Now I love this car except I have one issue that is causing me a lot of concern. Generally there are no driveability issues except around 2000 rpm it gently surges between 1800 and 2000 rpms which kind of makes it seem like the transmission is slipping particularly uphill. Now the real bad issue is when the fuel level gets to about a little below a 1/4 it drops all the way to Empty and then I get an error saying Fuel Computer Data Error. Not a big deal but in general before the error it says I have a little over 100 miles left til empty. However it starts acting like it is running out of gas especially up hill it acts like it is gonna die. Has anyone had this issue or know what it could be. I emailed a jag dealer and they emailed back it may be one of the fuel sending units going bad but they have to test and those units are super expensive. Thanks in advance.

My 03 S-type 3.0 did the same thing when it was a year old. It would gently surge up and down like it was searching softly for a gear change. The Jag dealer tried many things, until one day a mechanic found a reference from the manufacturer. They changed the torque converter and everything has been good ever since. It now has 69,000 kilometres on it.
