Unhappy HELP ! my gear is stuck at P

Hello every one im new here i would like to discus my problem in order to look for a solution and help others who could face a same one.

I have s-type jag 2003 v6, the engine starts normally but a yellow light with a restricted performance message is displayed, when i press the brake pedal to shift the gear it doesn't shift and the clicking sound is not heard i tried million times and nothing is going well

I checked all the fuses and all work good!

So what the problem could be ??

Check the 2 bolts that the shifter wire attaches to located underneath the car. One of mine came loose and wouldn't allow me to shift either. The bolts are known to work loose. I don't have the link handy but search transmission bolts.

My gear shift got stuck also. The solenoid inside the shift mechanism died, and there is no separate solenoid sold, jag only sells the entire J-gate assembly. 700+ bucks to replace mine.

Also something to remember. DON'T GET ROUGH WITH THE SHIFTER!!!! You will break it and has been posted it's very expensive. It's tempting to keep pulling on the shift lever but it's plastic and you will over power it.

You have been given the two most likely things. The bolts under the car on the tranny and the solenoids inside the car in the console.

Now here is an easy one and always check it first. Do you have brake lights? If not then you can't shift out of park because the car thinks you don't have your foot on the brake pedal while shifting out of park.

Mine is hard to shift out of park when I am parked in my driveway with a slight incline. I have to pull a little hard to get it into reverse.

Sounds like it's not fully held on the parking brake. Whether that or not, if it's harder to get out of P then you risk the commonish failure

I agree with Jagv8.....maybe the e-brake pads are done and need changing.
