Default HELP needed in Woodbridge, NJ - NJ inspection

3 weeks new-to-me 03 STR w/ 45K miles needs to be NJ inspected by Thursday, May 26!! (two weeks grace period expires then)

Issues:

Check engine light pop-up last night, ugh!! = suck it up and send in to local dealer Ray Catena? Any recommendations for an independent jag mechanic?

Front window tint - was going to buy steamer from Walmart and remove it myself = like on the youtube videos

No front licence plate bracket - - worst case temp double sided tape to get through inspection?

Thanks for hosting this venue of hope.

You could read the codes but time is not on your side to do that and diagnose and fix

Hey,

I'm in Hamilton in Mercer County. NJ only inspects emissions here in NJ. The tint isn't an issue, you can go right through the inspection station with the tint (it's still not legal). Take the front plate and put it in the corner of the window up by the dash and tell them you brought the car in from PA.

My brother has an independent shop in Mercer County if you want to have a look at it. I have a code scanner and an Elm 327 to scan it and figure out what's wrong with it.

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Take care,

George

STR cruiser, did you run her recently in the rain? If yes, it's common for the CEL to pop on when starting her again. If moisture (rain) is the issue the light will likely go out after several starts then shut downs of the engine. Regardless, as others here insist; have a code reader draw out codes.

Just ran up to JFK and back last night, so it got little rain. No signs of limp home mode or anything wrong. Hope to get in touch with George and get it sorted out. Thanks bfsgross

I live in Northern New Jersey. I eventually took mine to the Ray Catena in southern New Jersey (not the Edison location) at the recommendation of a Jag corporate guy. Not a short drive. Looks like they straightened out what the other dealer could not. They seem to be OK. Mine was under warranty.
