I'd have him recheck it asap, sounds like the water pump isn't circulating coolant. Maybe cold weather has kept it from overheating. Or it could be a completely unrelated problem??

I agree.

If its a V6, the belt can be fitted and work and by-pass the water pump entirely. I did that on the Silver car, and realised something was a amisss when the tensioner went almost full stroke with the new belt, NO WAY, so delved again, and found the blunder.

If its V8, no idea.

Ok after rereading this several times.

-Did the mechanic put a new belt on or not?
--I cannot tell if he did or did not from the OP.

-Have you checked antifreeze level?

Reason why I ask, there have been several times over the years here, where inexperienced mechanics have bumped the brittle coolant overflow tube on the coolant reservoir and have cracked it to the point where coolant would drip out, eventually causing no heat. Again its very easy to put your hand on that nipple when looking at the front of the engine.

Just my thought.....

Alrighty then.

-Did he mention where its leaking?

-Did he mention that you need to get the leak repaired ASAP?

-Did he explain that when you run low on coolant that the heat will not function properly and also you will eventually seize the motor?

-Did he give you a quote on repairing said leak?

Inspector Rick strikes again!

Have you checked the coolant level Hilary, if not you should do so soon.

Hi guys
He said it was a very small leak nothing to be too concerned about
Now I'm trying to check my coolant but my hood is stuck I can't get it open.... Not due to freezing something is blocking the release

The way the conversation went? -
Mechanic: "I installed a new belt for you. There is a small coolant leak but, don't worry about it, it will be OK"

The way it should have gone?-
Mechanic: "I put a new belt on for you, but I accidentally broke a fitting on a hose in your cooling system and it is causing a small leak. The small leak could cause you to lose enough coolant over time to cause some problems and eventually could cause the car to overheat and damage your engine. If you will pay the small cost for the part, I'll fix the damage at no charge to you."

Or -
Mechanic: "I put the new belt on wrong and broke a small fitting.........I also damaged something in your hood latch mechanism........."

Check your coolant level before your cook your engine and find a new "mechanic."
