Default Help please, s type grinding noise after tranny change

Hello all,I've just replaced the tranny on my 2000 S-Type 3.0 with a known good unit but I'm getting a grinding noise coming from the torque converter area, sometimes it goes but then comes back, any ideas please, could it just be low on fluid as I lost a little when replacing the oil cooler pipes? Or is it an installation error.
Thankyou

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to S-Type forum and added Model Year from your profile.

Members here with the same model will be able to help.

I would go with the trans fluid first and foremost.

You have mentioned you did loose some, so the trans will be lower than spec.

I would check it as per the book if possible.

If that is not feasable, remove the fiull plug, rear RH side of the trans case (hex plug), and add 1 ltr of fluid.

My better suggestion is to drain it, via the drain plug, then refill with fresh fluid.

I did a write up on this, and it is in the "stickies" at the top of this section.

Yes that was my thought,it sounds like the tc is scraping on something but I can't see how that is possible,I'll add the fluid and report back, thanks for your reply.

Well that's the oil topped up but still it's making the noise,it seems to come and go which I find strange. One more point is the selector is not just lined up right as it doesn't want to go to drive from neutral,if you go from 4th to d then it's fine,I don't supppose adjustment of the cable would make any difference to the noise.
