Have upper and lower manifolds removed for plugs, coils, breather hose. I have very little recent mechanical experience. I am putting things back together but the lower intake manifold gaskets are puzzling me. Note that it appears someone has worked on this engine and done a hack job as there was some botched stuff I found.
In pictures I have seen the lower intake manifold gaskets look like they press fit into the black assembly and then are placed onto the engine block while seated inside the lower intake manifold itself. However mine are far too big to sit in there.
I also took off this black plastic frame that was in between the lower manifold and the block. I don't see any reference to that in pictures or tutorials. Should I re use that?
Also in pictures I have seen people reference taking out the old gaskets, nearly intact. Mine had nothing that resembles the replacement gaskets. Just the black plastic frame and what was just some sort of rubbery like material coated on the frame.
I am using FEL-PRO Part # MS96494. This is the part # rock auto gave me. I have seen a reference to #MS96485.
I am stuck and want to make sure I don't screw anything up.
Thanks!

Yes... Figured that out. D'oh! The gaskets I ordered say they fit a 2002 S Type. The Fel Pro part numbers I got from Rock Auto say they are for a 2002 V6. I ordered the right gaskets from a local supplier. I was not able to complete the plugs, coils, breather, vacuum maintenance as a result, but we got everything else done. Now just have to get it all back together.
THANKS again for your help.

When you get done could you post the incorrect information? It might help prevent someone from ordering the wrong stuff like you got. The V-6 had a lot of changes between 2002 and the face lifted 2003.
It's very aggravating to order everything a head of time to only get stopped cold because of an incorrect part.

Yes, very good idea to post the different info. I am not sure how you would tell which type of gasket the car takes. According to VIN I ordered the right gaskets. For 2002 MY owners, safest bet would be to order both from a local and return the unused ones. Pretty much every parts shop seems to carry Fel Pro.
I will update my post once we finish the work and the car is purring and growling.
