Default help with plugs and coils

hey all. new to the Jag world and even newer to the DIY world, but times are tough and I'm learning to do for myself. Anyway, I've been researching a lot here and at this point I've got myself into information overload. One question I have at this point is whether or not I need to be figuring out how to remove my intake manifold? I have a 2002 s-type, 4.0 V8. Seems like a lot of threads are referring to the v6 on this. Do I not have to worry about this on the V8? Any good DIY links out there on the plug/coil replacement?

It took me about 2 hours to replace the coils and plugs on my 2002 4.0. The hardest part is the swivel sockets needed to get the COP covers off.

One of the best investments you could do if you are breaking into DIY is to get the JTIS program cd. They can be had all day long on e-bay for about 10 to 15 bucks.. The best 10 bucks you will spend. If you search for Jaguar S Type Service Manual you should get a bunch to chose from. The interface takes a while to get used to and some of the instruction sets suck, but it will get you through some of the basic stuff pretty well.

Your lucky to have the V-8!! No need to remove the intake to swap coils or plugs or valve cover gaskets. On the V-6 one side is covered up and requires the intake manifold to be removed.

I posted a great low price place to get coils and I was very surprised but try Amazon!

thanks for all the input guys! I kept finding stuff about taking the manifold off and almost paid to have it done (i've got a misfire). then i stumbled across a thread where someone "ranted" a bit about why couldn't the v6 be easier to do like the v8 and I caught on. thanks for the verification. hope by posting this thread, we've helped others who are learning like I am.

job done. 2 hours incluing "puttering around" running to get the plugs and chatting with the neighbors. actual work time was more like an hour/hour and a half. Have the v8 so everything was pretty easy to get to. had to work a little for the ones in the back of the left (driver's side) bank, but not too rough.
