Default Help replacing fender, see my video

Over the weekend I had a small fender bender. My front pass side fender needs to replaced. My question is, do I need to remove front bumper cover to replace the fender?

Also my a/c stop working about a month ago, now it's making noise. Can I bypass the a/c with a shorter belt, if so what length of belt do I need?

Thanks
John

Yes, you'll have to remove the bumper cover and undo the inner fender liner. I believe that the rocker panels also needs removed.

As far as bypassing the AC compressor, why not just fix it?

It turned out not to be my a/c but my belt tensioner pulley. I will tackle this job over the weekend also. Any tips for an easy install.

Thanks.

Ok, my car has been parked since last post. I was able to see that timing chain and tensioners were replaced in 2006, my questions is should it have worn out in 7 years and need to be replaced again? The work was completed at Jag dealership with 77,xxx miles now it has 166,xxx miles.

thanks

Did they use the all metal version? By 2006 they should have.

The all metal ones seem to last fine but you can check pretty easy by taking off a cam cover. You can see the secondary tensioner then but not the primary one.

Ok I remove belt and no more noise, it's the a/c clutch. Should I replace clutch or just a new compressor. How hard or easy to replace compressor?

Thanks

It is better to replace the compressor and clutch together since the compressor must be removed to replace the clutch.

There are four bolts holding the compressor, which can be accessed from the lower LH front. Remember to replace the two compressor manifold o-rings prior to reassembly and add sufficient compressor oil to the new unit. The Bentley workshop manual has all the details.

Prior to removing the compressor, the system will need to be discharged by a local workshop with the equipment to capture the freon/refrigerant as it is now illegal in most places to simply let the refrigerant escape into the atmosphere.

Check for OBD codes, then using OBD go round the sensors checking them for anything weird.

But first check your battery is really well charged and good. Recharge after.

Battery was placed on batt charger, fully charged. Don't have an obd. I only started veh like 5 sec without belt on. Is there any connection near the belt I could have knocked loose when I removed it?
