Hello all. I am new to this forum. Recently purcased a 2003 S Type R. Love the car, pulls like crazy, (When its running). The problem I am having while driving I get an error saying engine system fault. All warning lights come on, and the car will no longer accelerate, and runs like crap, rpm stays around 1200, up and down. Sometimes after restarting, it will do fine. Other times it may take a few restarts. I put it in the shop last week and they replaced the throttle body ($1137.10) Worked great for a few days. Also, before it started doing this, I got a few codesfor improper air fuel metering. They said it was theTB. Does anyone think it may be theMAF, and is the TPS sensor incorporated with the TB assembly. Thanks for you help I got a crappy warranty that only pays $75 of the labor rate. Could start costing alot.

I took the stuff off the engine yesterday and found that the ******* didn't change the throttle body like they claimed they did. The TB although cleaned still has that distinctive build up ring where the TB is at its closed position. Theres no way that kind of ring can develop in 4 days and only 90 miles.

Given that (1) the drivability problem clears itself after restarting, and (2) you see multiple P codes (i.e., for TPS and mixture), it sounds to me like a possible intermittent electrical connection or perhaps a problem with the ECM.
I would also suggest asking for the "bad" parts - particularly if they charged over a grand to replace something.
Given that the "new" TB didn't fix the problem, perhaps they should reinstall the old TB, refund the cost of the part (fat chance, I know), and look a little harder for the real problem.

Put it back in the shop and further diagnosed the problem and found water in the spare tire well. Said it was a leaking trunk seal. Anyway, they said the water corroded some components and that was causing the problem. Some of the codes thid time were: U2523 (CAN protocol time out from eng control module, and U1027 SCP invalid or missing data for engine RPM.) So far it hasn't had the (dead pedal) issues. But now it has a stumble under light engine load. In 5th or 6th gear cruising and lightly accelerating, it lurches and you can see the tachometer bouncing as it rises. Full throttle, No Problem. The plugs look a bit bad (white haze), possibly from running bad with the initial problem. Does anyone have any other ideas. THANKS.

What did they say about the TB when you told them you had paid $1137 to have the old one cleaned and not replaced as they said?
I agree with the above post, always ask for the used/bad parts to be left in acontainer in the boot in the new parts boxes that the new parts came in.

Re:- after marketwarranties.
They are not all the same.I only paid £150 for mine when I bought the car (3 years old) and it just about paid for itself the only time I had to claim when a speed sensor corroded and fell off. They wouldnt pay dealer rates (£100/hr) but agreed to pay Jag specialist rates total bill £148 inc parts and labour (£35/hr).
READ THE SMALL PRINT BEFORER YOU BUY.
Warranty companies are a business and are there to make money.Simple economics mean they do this by taking in more money from people buying warranties than they pay out in claims. This is whyI wouldnt bother with awarranty that cost me over £150 which means if ever anything did go wrong and it wasnt covered Ive saved the money that I would have spent on it in the 1st place. If it was covered and I hadnt bought it then the money that I would have spent on it would go towards the repair and inthis in mostcases would probably cover the repair and still leave money over.

There are no codes anymore. I don't know if the problem was bad gas, but it doesn't seem to do it much (if at all) anymore. Have not had any problems with the car in a couple of weeks. But it does seem like the plugs may be fouled. I am going to change the plugs and let yall know what's the result. I am finally getting the joy back in owning this lovely, powerfulcar.

Hey Buddy,
hang in there, no wonder CNN rates the Jag S type one of the most unreliable vehicles in the luxury class. I wish I would have know all this before the crooks at the dealership lured me into buying my Jag few months back. After all when you buy a car for its value it should give you some piece of mind atleast for a few years with regular maintenance. I got the 2000 s type with 80,000km on it3 months since and I already have the engine light flash twice. If it was just mine I wud say I got tricked into getting a lemon but since than almost all the reviews I have seen for this maker has the same issues, specially with mileage below 100,000k it makes you just loose your mind. Than imagine the money you have to dish out just to keep it running. I hate this car, Hopefully I will be trading this *** eating jaguar junk soon and getting into an Accord or a Toy 4 runner. Good Luck Pal.
