Default High Mileage - a concern?

Iam looking to get rid of my X-Type & get an S-Type with the V6 dsl. Ideally a sport model around an '04. Quite a few I have seen in Ebay / Echange& Mart / Autotrader have relatively high mileage some in excess of 100,000 miles. Now I know typically on a diesel this is just run in, but are there any other concerns that I should look out for with high mileage, as once I buy the car I will not be able to afford any repairs. Cheers, Darren

You'll have no more concerns or problems than you would with any other high end high mileage diesel. My father owns a Jaguar 2.7 diesel with 90k on it and hasnt had any problems.

Diesels have a completely different set of rules. I've seen some of the old Benz Diesels hit 300K miles, and the trucks easily hit 1 million miles, and they also have a very different and limited market.

I would like to know more about the diesel Jags. They are not imported to the US, so I've never seen one. Lot's of questions though. Are they as loud as the old MB or the current Ford trucks? Do they leave huge wafts of black smoke? Does it accelerate faster than a tractor?

Some years ago I worked on the development of the V6 Diesel and was lucky enough to recently drive one. It is so quiet, yes a bit noisier than a petrol, but really just like a slightly rough running V6 petrol, so I found any noise pleasent rather than the horrible knocking from an inline dsl. As for torque, well this engine is just great and I feel it would leave many a performance car in its wake. Combine the torque with an auto trans & for relaxed performance with decent mpg I'd have to wonder why anyone would buy a petrol. Hence I want a dsl. If money was no object I'd go for the V8 petrol, but real world give me the dsl any day.
But if you are in the UK they are rubbish so don't buy one (at least 'til I have found mine)

Thanks for the info. I wonder if Jag will ever bring them here or if they are afraid the purists would revolt?

It's far too polluting for the tree huggers!
