About 100k not cause I wanted but I was changing my motor oil and my smart *** brother loosen the tranny plug cause he thought it was for the motor oil, aaawww honda drivers. Anyways I sticked with the mineral oil, they charged me $80 a quart the b!+@S. They also said the remaining tranny oil was very clean. I had to pay that outrageous amount because they where they only ones that would touch me tranny.

$80/qt? Ouch!
'03 STR with 79k miles. I've had it just over a year now, thermostat and water pump went out last spring. Pump was covered by the warranty, thermostat was not. And let me say they charge a lot for a thermostat. Replaced the windshield last summer because it randomly cracked all the way across while sitting in the driveway. Last month, took it in to the shop for a misfire. Ended up replacing two coils and plugs, again warranty would not cover it. Last oil change was in December before the holidays, used many quarts of royal purple. Wanted to try amsoil but couldn't find a seller in town.
So far, the car has been less reliable in its first year than my '99 and '00 grand prix gtp, which I no longer have. Technically, the only reason I ended up with the jag is because I drove past it while shopping for a new car when my 300 was totaled. Would I buy it again? Of course. Its like a child; it'll do stupid sh&^ but you still love it regardless.

Hi,
I have 69K miles on my 2000 3.0L SE that I am the original owner of. Mechanical problems have been 3 power window regulator failures, the coolant expansion bottle, and a rattling shifter. The expansion bottle and one window regulator occurred after the warranty expired. I do all my own repairs and maintenance and found both repairs to be pretty easy. Routine service I've done included changing the sparkplugs and the ATF, brake pads, oil changes and filters at regular intervals. I've owned several premium cars ( Lexus Sc300, Nissan 300Zx , Lexus 300Rx and RX350 ) and the Jaguar is at least the equal in reliabllity and superior in character and overall performance. The best car I've ever owned.
best regards, Vic

I believe I can get a better, longer-coverage deal on the open market as opposed to the dealership. I've marked my calendar for mid-June in terms of making a decision one way or the other. Any transmission burps or electronic module snafus under warranty will immediately cause me to go ahead and pull the trigger on an extended warranty purchase. I hope this car is indeed "new & improved" enough compared to the early S-Type models that an extended warranty may not be needed. But as I said before, the jury is still out....

2000 3.0 117000 Broken plastic shifter clip, cracked coolant tank, broken plastic upper/lower radiator hose connectors, 6 coils replaced, breather hose replaced, constant cylinder 5 misfire which led to a bad catalytic converter, ball joint problems, the lurch, car shakes and shutters at 45mph and 65 mph once above or below those speeds its stops. headliner came down as well as on the front pillars. front driver and passenger window regualtors replaced, worn ignition barrel. door latches dont latch on and close in very cold weather for some reason.

S-Type mileage
Hi, I just purchased a 2007 4.2L with 27,000 miles, extended the Jaguar bumper-to-bumper
coverage through Feb. 2013 so I plan to put at least 100,000 miles on this car. Looked at past records (it was a 2-year lease return) and the big problem I saw was that the transmission was replaced in 2007, several months after the car went into service. While I thought this was unusual, and I was fearing a lemon, the Jaguar mechanic assured me that the car was in sound mechanical shape. He said sometimes you do run across a bad trans. in new cars. He said the entire trans. was replaced, no fiddling with repairs. The only other thing replaced was a fuel pump. Other than that, a flawless history. I couldn't pass up the deal since I got the car for under KBB priviate party value and it is showroom condition. Has every option available that year except for Jaguar voice. Absolutely love the car and have to add that a 4.2L is definitely the way to go, huge difference from the 3.0L in performance and much smoother ride. It's a beautiful indigo blue with ivory interior. Very happy with the S-Type in general, turned in my 2006 S-Type 3.0L lease to buy this one and am glad I did. Had over 54,000 miles on my lease and never had a problem, even returned it with original tires at acceptable wear and tear, if you can believe that! Was considering the XF but I just liked the S-Type styling better, also love the wood, which is lacking in the XF. Only negative is that the satellite radio is not integrated into the navigation system, a minor inconvienence that I can live with. Best of luck to you!! These cars are high quality and will provide many years of service with the proper maintenance. However, as you know, when things do break down repairs are very expensive. If you can get a maintenace contract, probably a good safety valve just in case.

Getting 54,000 miles out of a set of tires on an S-Type, even the tamer 3.0 version, is quite an impressive accomplishment. I wouldn't have thought that possible until now. Hope the 4.2 version treats you as well as your 3.0 obviously did. Keep us posted on that replaced transmission - wonder what the complaint from the original owner was?

125K and still going strong! I have owned this car, garage kept, no abuse since 2002. only put 50K on it in 7 years. Looks brand new.
Problems:
16 spark plugs (Leaking valve covers shorted out)
8 coils (leaking valve covers, shorted out)
rear window motor (still broke)
ash tray lid broke (still broke)
both front doors speakers fell out (screwd back in)
coolant resovoir cracked (replaced)
heater valve replaced (full of dirt)
headliner fell down ( still hanging
2 sets brakes and rotors
Gearbox light every 3 -5 times I drive car
3 batteries ( major issues with this one- still in shop)
maybe rear body control module ( draining battery)
Other than that, I went to trade it in last week and and BMW said it was worth 3K. I said I would keep it til it died fro 3K!!!! I paid cah for it so if you consider no payments for 7 years, these issues were cheap.

132k 4.0 2000 model owned for the last two years.
Transmission had to be rebuilt added life time warranty
Replaced all coils and sparks plugs at least twice. My fault one of those times.
replaced idle air control valve.
Replaced steering knuckles both left and right.
Replaced several rubber bushings in suspension.
Had a wiring harness fix installed to cure battery drain.
replaced hot water control valve .
replaced one valve cover gasket, both cam positioning gaskets and spark plug O rings.
thermostat house hose
Fuel filter
I too bought my car cash. I have no intentions of selling it. So over the coming years, I plan to get my use out of her.

So it looks like I'm bringing this thread out of the dead as a my first post, but I think it will be worth it. I joined because we're finally looking to sell our S-Type after 7 years of highway use for my dads sales job, and we currently have about 222,000 miles on it with only routine maintenance, and all service records. Only the reverse parking sensors don't work (apparently too much moisture got into them). Impressive, and surprising, but it can be done. Here's a pic, it's not a beater either! I'll have a posting in that section in the coming days most likely.

Congrats! I wouldn't have thought it was possible without spending more on maintenance than the car is worth. A very high percentage of highway use is the key here. That's what my wife does in her S-Type, so I hope our eventual outcome with our S-Type turns out to be as favorable as your dad's has been. Time will tell....

Nearly as many miles as http://www.jaguarforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32180
This car had the engine rebuilt at 212,000 miles.
I think the op says his car is original.

Original owner of 2000 s-type 3.0l but only have 87K miles on it. I keep the car parked in the garage and mostly drive it on weekends. The interior and exterior are like new. Mechanically, I've replaced 1 power window regulator failure (left back) and of course the coolant expansion bottle. I'm getting ready to replace water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, o-rings, serpentine belt and idler pulley. Thus far, very happy with car... It should be noted that I drive conservatively and try to keep the rpms below 6000 - typically 3-4000 rpm.
PS galenpriv - very nicely done!!!
