Horn Honks with first click of lock on S-Type
UPDATE 2/4/11:
Dealer has re-created the problem but no mechanics can determine the cause. Any ideas out there? Thanks much! Boog
A couple of months ago, my 2004 S-Type 3.0 w/25K started to do a honk after pressing lock on the first time. The honk is the same one that you get when you press it the second time. This occurs about 40 - 50% of the time. To ensure there is no door or other ajar, I hit unlock on the FOB, then lock and this often then locks (not always) without a honk.
I think that the fact that I hit the unlock and then lock without touching the car proves that there is an issue with the alarm or something.
It is now at the dealer for this and a number other issues not related to this and the dealer refuses to look at it because he hit lock a couple of times and did not reproduce the problem. I explained that he needed to open and close the door a few times to produce the problem, as this is how the car is driven and when the problem occurs. He is being difficult and is not cooperating.
Key FOBS were replaced about a year ago (2).
Anyone ever heard of this or have any ideas? Much appreciated. Let me know if I've left out crucial information.
Thanks much,
Boog

Resolved!
Incredibly, dealer refused to fix problem as he could not figure it out after many hours of work. I asked if he had replaced the battery in the FOB. No. I replaced the battery after I left and this resolved the problem.
I have 2 FOB's, one with an older battery, which fails 50% of the time, and one with a new battery that works consistently. Had dealer put in writing that he did not fix this item that was under warranty before I left and that I would not pay the $200 deductible when I returned to get it fixed again.
I guess the moral is to do the simple things first. I thought that the dealer had done this. Boog
