How to decode the 4.0l motorcode? (4.0l AJ28 from MY2003 in S-Type MY2000 ?)
Hi guys,
I´ve to swap my engine in my S-Type 4.0L MY2000 (german S-Type). I´ve the option to buy a 4.0L AJ28 from MY2003 (UK model). But I´m unsure, if this motor will work in my S-Type from MY2000.
I´ve seen, the ECUs in the 2003 S-Types differs from the earliers models. Is it right, that the Jaguar changes the firing order in the AJ28 4.0l in 5/2002 ?
So, I got the motorcode from the local dealer for the 2003 engine, but how can I decode it? Perpaps it´s a 4.2l (not a 4.0l) or the engine has the changed firing order and it can´t work with my ECU?
Thanks for your answers :-)
Tom

By 2003 in UK all would be 4.2. It's possible but not easy to convert and there's a detailed thread in another forum on this site in case you want to consider it.
I believe the actual firing order stayed the same. What changed was the way the cylinders are numbered but if you look at the two firing orders and allow for the changed numbering they work out the same.
What's wrong with the existing engine?

Hi,
the crank shaft bearings in the existing engine are broken and there is piston squeezing too. No chance to rebuild, that´s what Jaguar said to me.
If the new engine (2003) is the last version of the 4.0l V8 engine in the S-Type (with the new ECU), would it fit in my MY2000 S-Type (1st generation V8 4.0l engine) with the old ECU?
Today I´ll search for some threads, where the changes in the AJ-28 engine are listed and I´m searching the engine conversion thread, you told me. Thanks.
How can I check with the motorcode on the engine, if it´s a 4.0l or a 4.2l engine? The engine number on the 2003 engine is: *LFACF*BBAA* *LSNMK*
There is no VIN available, where the new engine is dismounted from, I only know it´s a S-Type MY2003 from UK and has the new ECU. Is not the same than my ECU, it´s complete different :-(
regards,
Tom
