Default How does OBD "jack" attach to dash?

I have a 2005 S type 4.2.

I took it to the emissions inspection station (necessary to register my car after moving) and was told they they could not test my car for emissions because the OBD (on-board diagnostic) plug was not securely anchored to the dashboard. I looked at it and the OBD hookup was attached (i.e. wires were attached) but it was just kind of dangling behind the dash.

[As an aside, I think this is crap. I know what the hook up cable looks like and it could be plugged in even if it wasn't anchored to the dash. But I don't expect competence from the DMV].

My question is, can anyone tell me (or better yet show a picture) of how this is usually anchored? It look like there is an opening in the dash that it fits through, but I can't tell if it just "pops" in or it there should be screws or bolts holding it in place.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

The dash? On my 2004 car it's down by the pedals, securely bolted to the plastic...... yeah I guess that's sort of lower (very lower) dash. Maybe they moved it on the 2005 but I'm a bit doubtful - someone will hopefully say. Otherwise you may need to look at a car that's for sale or some such.

I'd find an inspection station that doesn't care if its 'attached' or not, but instead, it successfully provides the data necessary from the car. You can't fake a completed OBD cycle...why would they care if the port is rigidly affixed or not. Goofy.

It is lower down by the pedals (lower dash). Again if anyone has a picture, that would be helpful.

Unfortunately, this is in Washington DC, where the inspections are done by the DMV and there is only one inspection station.

I don't have a picture but it does snap in to the lower dash panel. It is a crappy / weak snap connection... I tested my new OBD scan tool a while back and popped mine out of it's socket....

So, lay down there and you'll see it. You should be able to just pop it back in.... Then when the inspection dude plugs in the tester and knocks it out again...Tell him they will be getting a bill from the Jaguar dealer to fix it! LOL... Consider it payback for not inspecting your car in the first place...
