RATE IT OUT OF 10 PLEASE.

It's gonna start snowing here in Canada really soon. And I still haven't found a jag. Just wanted to be 1 step ahead..

I would have to rate the S-Type as very good (8 out of 10) in the winter. The DSC, ABS and the HVAC systems all work well to make the S-Type very competent in winter conditions. It is better than the FWD car I have due to the systems mentioned above.

CarSmartNot - are you used to a 200+ bhp RWD car in snow and ice? The DSC etc will help but you (the driver) are the main item. Bear in mind that if you have not got used to a car in normal conditions then life may be tough indeed.

JagV8 is dead on.... Winter driving is 80% driver skill, 15% tires, and 5% the car. That said, I hate FWD in any weather. That is why I love mine in the snow. Drifts just enough, DSC doesn't interfere unless you really fat fist the car. Just love it!

I live in the hills of West Virginia. Having had an AWD X-Type that was excellent in snow, I was surprised how well my S-Type did in snow with the well-worn Michelins that were on the car when I bought it in January. I'm ready for this winter - put 4 Kumhos on her this Summer.

Well, my STR can handle the winters here in Winnipeg just fine, and we have bad winters! Just make sure to get a good set of winter tires, and make sure you know how to handle winter driving. You can drive any car in the winter as long as you know how to drive in snow and ice and have a good set of tires. I would rate it about a 8/10. Any car with 400hp will be difficult to handle, but once you get used to it, its not so bad. And I find rear wheel drive cars are SO much easier to drive in the winter.

I've driven mine (2003, 4.2L) through 3 Montreal winters so far. Beats my old Infiniti hands down. Top of the line the tires and driver skill makes all the difference.
