How to: S Type FOB Battery replacement without reprogram
Hi all,
I thought I would quickly post my experience with S Type key FOBs. When I first bought my first STR 3 years ago, one of the FOBs had a dead battery. I changed them all and had an indie shop reprogram them for 75$.
A few weeks ago I had another battery die. I decided there had to be a better way.
Tools needed:
Small common screw driver
DC power supply with aligator clips
2 small wires
solder
New CR2013 Battery
Time < 20 minutes start to finish
First remove the key side of the fob.
Pop open the back of the sending unit.
Solder wires to the terminals which connect to the +/- of the PCB.
Attach your wires to the proper terminals of your DC power supply set to 3V.
Remove the small phillips screw holding the PCB in place.
Remove PCM and replace battery. Be careful not to knock an alligator clip off or you will need a reprogram.
Reassemble in reverse order.
I will attach photos later of the particular terminals I soldered my wires too.

Once the keyfob transmitter(s) is/are configured to the vehicle, they will remain configured unless something happens to the receiver. (or the transmitter fails)
The keyfob transmitters don't emit a signal all the time, just when a button is pressed.
Removing the battery does not change anything.
