I am an IDIOT! :)
#41
Picture the scene.... Myself and my colleague are testing a new Ford Mondeo diesel DPF regeneration system in the arctic conditions of north Sweden. We are at least 20 miles from any town and there is no mobile (cell) phone signal. We drive down a dead end road and stop at the end where there is a frozen lake, Its -40 Celsius outside and we get out of the car to look at the beautiful scenery. I leave the key in the ignition and we stand by the car for a while, then my colleague says "Lets head down to the lake for some pictures". And with that he pulls a key out of his pocket and locks the passenger side door, which activates the central locking.
Its only then that I ask him which key he has...... and he just stares at the key in silence. It says "Transit #227". He had locked the car with the only key that would open the doors still in the ignition!
I can tell you that digging for a rock with your bare hands in the permafrost at -40 Celsius isn't easy.
I ended up kicking the rear quarterlight in, which is pretty hard work with snow boots on! The drive back to the engineering base was pretty cold...... and silent lol.
So don't feel too bad, it happens to us all
