ok i am a total newbie on jaguars. i sold my 2002 honda civic si which is a really reliable car and replacing parts is cheap. i know jaguars aint cheap especially when it comes to replacing parts. i will be either purchasing a 2000 or 20013.0 v6jaguar i got 3 in mind right now that i want to buy just need to check them out first. all 3 of them range from 60k to 70k miles which is i think still pretty low. what should i look for when i purchase them? i search and find that the jags tend to have transmission issues? and i wont be able to change the fluid myself cuz u will need jag dealership or ford dealership to do the work. how much will it cost just for the fluid change at the dealer? also issues such as windows falling on you. some electrical malfunctions. for the v6 modelwill i need to run only premeium fuel or can i use the cheaper gas?what i really want to know is that is this jaguar gonna last me until at least 150k without any major engine problems? i dont want to be forking out tons of cash just to maintain this car if its going to be giving me all this grief. let me know know what your feedbacks are and if i should buy a jag or should just opt for a honda or toyota where its cheap to repair and really reliable.

If you are mechanically inclined, changing the fluid is not that hard.
Common problems with '00-01 3.0s.
Coolant leaks, Oil pan gasket leaks, vaccum leaks, coils.
It's a reliable car as long as you keep up with the maintanance.
Try to get a maintenance history from the owner before you buy. Look over the car for the mentioned problems.

I have an 01 3.0 and so far it's been too good! Great car, but try driving it slowly over speedbumps to see if the ball joints have been changed. If they havn't, you'll hear a knock in the front suspension. Keep up with the maintenance. Look to spend about 350-400 bucks on the car the second you buy it. I spent about 400 bucks to change the coils, spark plugs, A/T fluid, engine oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter(about 2-3 weeks later), and a full coolant system flush! It hasn't given me any problems and runs great, but please make sure you use 93 octane gas and if the check engine turns on, check it out immediately!

the person who i am buying the car said all oil changes and stuff have been done at the jag dealership plus they just replaced the gearbox 6 months ago when the car was under warantee. this was just their weekend car and that is why its only got 69,xxx miles on it. anything else i should look up for? or does this sounds like a good deal. its a 2000 3.0 s-typ with 69,xxx miles for 11,500

when you do get it. a really common problem they have is the gearshift getting stuck in park, such as when your on an incline, or the wheels are against the parking"stopper" too hard. i had to get it replaced twice. first it wouldnt get out of park, then the second time it just broke haha it would go through all the PRND and the numbers, but it was moving freely and not coming out of park. it was not fun, learn to use your ebrake before you slap it in park

Good info fast40... the ebrake while in neutral, then putting it in park will keep a lot of strain off the shifter... you can obviously feel how smooth the shifter will become. Then press the brake, put the car in reverse or park(whatever) and take the ebrake off. You're good to go!
