I can not open my trunk the battery is dead-help!!!

So in another thread I saw a hint list that identidfied the mechanical key hole in the lip of the trunk (boot) lid.. I tried it and the alarm went off although it did open it...
I was thinking it was the smoke screen ekector because mine was covered with black stuff.
There's a lot to be said for RTFM (Read The Fine Manual)!

That's the first time you mentioned you were using a Valet key. I was confused, too, as to why your key wouldn't work, but now it makes sense.

Key won't unlock this door/trunk
I too am victim of this. My 2005 S-Type has been sitting for a month and apparently the battery is dead with the owners manual locked inside. I found the keyhole in the trunk lid, but when I turn it, it does not unlock the trunk. The keys appear not to go all the in the hole on the driver's door either. I'm stumped.

Guys, yes the trunk has a hidden place with a whole where you can insert the key. The problem is that my key is not working therefore I can not open the trunk. For those who do not know where the key hole on the truck is please see the video: Jaguar S Type how to open trunk if battery is dead Jaguar Hilton Head - YouTube.
Is there a way to open the trunk if the key do not work and the seats do no not fold???

Serious problem when one of our most esteemed Moderators (Rick-San) posts a bum link about something as fundamental as the pancake bunny.
To save him from the prescribed JF ritual suicide (I won't go into details but it invloves no axle stands and a faulty hydraulic jack)
This

is the bona-fide explanation.

That's weird. Some sort of circular reference in Wiki just takes you back to the 'Page Deleted' message.
Here's another article
collision detection: Oolong, the "head performance" bunny
Now, where's that leaky jack gone ?

An alternative to get the trunk open, not that I've tried it on a Jag, is to supply power to the car via the cigar lighter. Any car parts store will have a battery charger that will plug into the socket. Put the ignition switch in the accessory position as I believe the circuit is dead with the key off. Let the charger work for at least a few minutes and see what happens.

That sounds a lot easier than sending in a team of Lilliputians through the back seat.
BTW, something I've always wondered about. If the valet key doesn't operate the trunk (I've never even tried) it does operate the ignition and then you can just push a button to open the trunk (I have tried that) so what's the point?

Are you using the 'real' key or the valet version?

If the car is in valet mode, and is started with the valet key, neither the outside or the inside pushbutton will open the trunk.
BTW, TheJagWrangler will very shortly be introducting a new product. It is an emergency trunk opener with an internal lithium battery backup. By typing a 3 digit PIN number (which you can set yourself) using button presses on the trunk finisher pushbutton, you will be able to open the trunk. It will work on all Jags with the outside pushbutton trunk switch. It will be an easy 10 minute installation.
This is primarily targeted at giving you a means to retrieve your keys if you accidently lock them in the trunk, but if will also work if you have a dead or disconnected battery and a broken trunk key lock.
I have a working protoype...just waiting on parts and manufacturing.

This works well but just keep an eye on your keys

If you've got the right key it must unlock the driver's door.
If it doesn't go right home the lock barrel is seized.
The ideal would be to spray some proper lock lubricant into it but (at the risk of screams of rage) try WD40, ideally via the 'straw' directly into the lock.
Then waggle the key as you put it in until everything frees up.
