Absolutely - no big deal to put some lubricant on the key and go round all the 'oles.
At the same time clean and lubricate the bonnet latches + cable - another problem that crops up nearly as often as taxes.

Confession: I've seen the title of this post for (seems like) forever and just figured someone else wasn't aware of the hidden keyhole...but when it got up to 3 pages...I had to click in to see what was going on?!? Interesting...my daughter's 03 has that seized drivers' side lock....I cautioned her if she let her FOB batt's die while away at school she'd have to open the boot and crawl thru....

Machi, good to hear you got it sorted. You probably do want to go key-shopping if all you have is the valet...but take a sack of $$ and a chair (you'll want to be sitting down when they tell you what one costs and that you HAVE to buy 2!...but relax..search out some posts by Brutal/Motorcarman...it is possible to get by with only one and a loaner key and a piece of aluminum foil if the price is too shocking...

Hi All,

To my knowledge here in the UK, we do not have the luxury of a valet key. Well my manual gearbox S does not have one anyway.
Just for the sake of keeping things right, every now and then I lubricate the key locks, including the Boot Lock (sorry, Trunk Lock), with a very light grade oil to ensure they stay nice and easy to use. When polishing the car I give the area around the Boot Lock a special clean just to stop the build-up of muck etc., around it.

Regards
Inver.

Graphite powder sold for lubricating lock tumblers is the best approach for keeping automotive locks from sticking. Use it sparingly - a little goes a long way....

+1 and also stops the build-up of muck etc., around the 'oles. I did my yearly walk around today and verified that the main key will operate all the locks on mine. The battery in the fob must be 7+ years old- must be due for a change soon.

Drivers' side frozen lock complicates trailering.....if you don't have a small, thin child to retrieve the keys after you load and crawl out the window....global close only working from the keyhole and not the FOB.

I agree about graphite for working locks but he's got one that looks to be seized so I'd guess, in this case, something a bit penetrating would be better until he frees it up.

Default unlock door through keyhole

I read in a previous post that someone reported that their key didn't seem to go all the way in the keyhole on the door. When I try that with either of my keys, it goes in only about half way and it won't turn. But when I put it in the hole in the boot/trunk, it goes in all the way and it turns. Is my problem with the door just getting the key in far enough? Does your key go all the way into the hole on your door?

It goes in so that there's 1/4" (6.5 mm) of shank left sticking out - and you're turning anti-clockwise to unlock.

That's an excellent deal, Plums.
However for the person who has inadvertently locked their keys, key fob AND anti lockout kit in the boot we again suggest
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j...fVWeXwqg6kSn1w

If small children or wives are also locked in the boot this technique should be employed with extreme caution.

I find it unusual that NONE of the locks seem to operate on the poster's car. Strange. We can point fingers of shame and mutter 'how could he let this happen' under our breath, but that doesn't help get the car running again.

I guess at this point it's time to call the auto club and have them open a door with their slim jims. That- or smash a side window.

But has he done the WD shake, rattle + roll on the driver's door?
It would be a bit strange if the remote was on a keyring with keys for the wrong car.

Yep Mikey I see it as 3 ways right now:

-slim jim the lock

-tow it to a dealer

-remove passenger side front inner fender to gain access to the postive lead under the red cap in picture below and energize, then use key FOB if it still works.
