Well the S Type is well known by now. So all the problems have come up and have solutions.

Just a matter of repair cost .VS. worth of the car at this point.

Hopefully it's bore wash and you can get it started.

If you do get another S Type the key is to go for the 2003 and up models.

Thanks for reporting back! Can you tell us how the dealer got it srarted? A shot of starter fluid or just a lot of cranking?

I ask because it sometime takes so much cranking that the starter and or battery gives up right after getting the car started.

I emailed a thread "Bore Wash! Help! FIXED" that is on here to the service manager Friday morning. It suggested pulling the spark plugs and adding a teaspoon of motor oil into the plug holes. When I called this morning he told me that they had stripped the engine (lie) and were looking for valve damage. I asked him didn't they try the bore wash angle before they dug in to the engine as I had requested. "What bore wash angle?" I got pretty upset thinking they were trying to gouge me and asked him if he checked his email. He claimed that he didn't receive anything from me. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, it could have landed in his spam mail because of the link. So I forward it to him again, thankfully with the time stamp. When I get to the shop 2 hours later. He walks me over the the car. The tech had just added the oil to the plug hole, puts the plug back (only removed one), reinstalled a small bracket on the right side of the engine then the air filter housing. Seals everything up and goes to start it. First crank, spot on! A huge plume of white smoke from tailpipes as the oil burns out from the cylinders and she's running like nothing ever happened.

I get my tab for a bit over $300 and I'm outta there. They were stunned. Mgr says he couldn't believe that worked and the tech agreed. The more I think about it the more upset I am with myself for towing it there in the first place without consulting these pages first. But I suppose $300 is a pittance compared to what they could have taken me for. A lesson learned.
