Hi, I would love two pieces of information concerning my car as soon as possible because my baby is in the shop, for the fourth time, and the mechanics do not seem to know how to fix the issues.
Problem 1: The key gets stuck in the ignition. When I turn the car off, the key will not come out, budge, wiggle, nothing. I restart the car, sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. The mechanics have lubricated the ignition, recut the keys, adjusted the gearbox. Nothing. I "Googled" the problem and found that "the key may not come out due to an intermission in the shifter." I told the dealer this and they didn't seem to care!
Problem 2: This problem is sometimes related to problem 1 but not always. I start the car, and instead of starting the car makes a very high pitched, grinding noise. I am certain it is the same noise that a starter makes if the car is already running. I know that Jaguars have a relay that will not allow a car to be restarted thus making the noise. Be clear, my car is NOT running when I have this problem. Most time, I let go of the ignition, try again and the motor fires. I have noticed the key being stuck before, attempt to start the car, in hopes of retrieving the key upon turning the car off, and have instead heard the screeching noise.
My car is in the shop as I speak, any help would be grately appreciated and promptly told to the mechanics!
Thank you Jonathan

interesting, i personnally never heard of this problem with any Jag, BUT, my wifes 2004 chevy monte carlo SS with the 3.8L engine had the exact same problem. Turns out it was the ignition switch that needed to be replaced, which the dealer did not do at first...i got the run around, like you, and only after I pressed the issue did they replace the entire switch did the starting and key being stuck problem go away. 5 days later the car cought on fire :-) Chevy bought the car back and paid us to keep quiet.
