im a younger kid and i absolutely love jags. i found this one and fell in love with it. I don't know all to much about these cars, but my mom has a 00 XRJ and it seems to be a little shop friendly.

da1 - i have to agree! I own one and it's been nothing but repair after repair after repair... Live and learn, but I'm not sure if I'll ever buy another Jag (sorry fans, I think my car is gorgeous, just a poorly built pain in the ***.)
You can invest a bit more and get a newer model (04 and beyond) or get a car with a better reliability rating (toyota, infiniti, nissan, honda, ....)

Are you kidding me? You are 23 years old, own three and advise someone not to purchase one!
If they are that bad why did you buy the second one and, knowing how 'bad' they are, purchase a third?
Please tell me what your age has to do with owning three of these?

Would not recommend it.
First, you might want to consider looking at an S-Type with a V8 and less mileage than that. V8's get adequate fuel economy and provide you with A LOT more power than the tiny V6.
Second, You need a warranty.
Third, You need a warranty.

Hi,
I guess I'll provide a contrarian view. My 2000 S-type 3.0Lhas been a great car for me since I purchased it new in 2000. It has been at least as reliable or better than other premium cars I have owned ( Nissan 300 ZX, Lexus SC300 ). That said, I have had window regulators break and the coolant recovery tank need replacement but both were pretty easy to fix with reasonable parts cost by internet shopping. Other than those issues its just been routine maintenance.
Ido all my own maintenance and thus am not held hostage by high shop repair costs. Any premium car needs to be properly serviced or problems will arise. If you have to pay someone to work on your car its going to be expensive and premium cars are more expensive to service and repair than non-premium cars. If you don't have some mechanical skills to care for your Jaguarbe prepared to get hammered.
I will agree that later model S-Types are great values and the later models have had fewer reported problems than the early models (99-01 ). Take your time, do some research and carefully evaluate each car before you buy. If you aren't able to do car repairs yourselfthe later models may still have their warranty protection. Good luck in your search, S-Types are great!
