Default Info needed on Type R

Hello all

As you can tell I'm new to the forums and have a great opportunity to purchase an 03 Jaguar S Type R. This will be my first Jaguar and have read lots of reviews on the 03+ type R which seems to have very little problems. Should I be concerned that the car has 137K?

MDcivic, 137k is a bit high on the mileage scale. I attained my 03 STR a year and a month ago with 87k on the clock. She now has 112k and still going strong. Now...does she have service records? Ya never know...someone may have taken good care of her. If she is in good shape in and out? If ya reach an agreed price, have a foriegn car mechanic look her over well. I'd say offer em $7500. Pay $8500 max. If they offer a one year comprehensive warranty covering drive train, etc. then $9 k max. Otherwise keep searching.

My 03 STR is just getting ready to turn 70k. I spent a few grand going over the car when I got it, but it has been utterly reliable so far. On a personal note I would not daily drive a car with more than 100k on it, but it could be a trouble free car for you. It depends on how it was driven and what maintenance was done.

10-4 to pushing tin. My 03 est. 450+ hp STR w/112k on the clock is a very reliable daily driver and whoops many younger metal. Jaguar built the s/c 4.2 bulletproof. It'll give you 400 hp thrill rides whilst in comfort...if well maintained. MDcivic, if she really turns ya on and ya get together for 8 grand (+ -), get a warranty that covers full engine, trans, and differential, keep her well oiled...then ya relatively safe.

Thanks for the reply. What's the typical cost to rebuild the 4.2?

I have no idea but I would guess A LOT more than you would want to spend. If you are serious about the car look in the trunk under the spare for water as that is very common. Your car may also have a rear differential whine that there is a TSB for. It does not affect the car except that it can be annoying at 60mph. Parts for this car can be quite expensive, but there are a lot of good vendors here that offer discounts, and lots of us can give you advice on where to get other cheaper parts.
