Default Inside fan does its own thing

How quirky is this? I was washing my '06 S Type this afternoon. A half hour after parking the car it began making a whispering rumble kind of sound. My former car (Audi TT) did that a lot as the fan came on to cool down the engine. What I experienced today was the INSIDE blower running. The AC was off. The car was not turned on. It did this for 5 minutes. I'm guessing today wasn't the first time...I drive it to the office and park it, so I can't be sure.

The car has several months of warranty, but this is a first for me.

Even so, I love driving this car.

There's a jag TSB or something about it. Don't worry, it's not a fault (so long as it goes off after a while) - it's to try to prevent condensation build-up, IIRC. Gotta love them computers!

Default I had similar situation

I came home from work, and came out to he garage about 20mins later and the fan was running.
I can't remember what was on or off, or what i did (this was before vacation!), but when I came back the battery was dead in 10days sitting, so the two co-incidences have me keeping an eye on this.
Kind of an insidious thing, am I to wake up every 1/2 hour in the night and go check! Or set up a webcam in the garage with audio......
In my business we make recording voltmeters for the utility industry, I am going to maybe modify one to record from a Fuke DC current sensor on the battery wire and keep an eye on the quiescent current of the car.

Will advise as I find anything - may take a while!

pdr1966.... Lots of things "stay alive" on these cars. I have a MUCH cheaper solution. When the car is parked for more than a few days hook up a battery keeper. I got mine from Sears for $19.99. It sits on the Dodge and cycles automatically. Now I'm not buying a new battery every year for the garage queen.

PDR1966;
You have a 2003 model. Is the battery original?? If it is and the car has just started doing this I would be suspicious that you need to replace the battery.

Engine cooling fan on when parked: normal if hot.
Internal blower on after a considerable delay (20mins or so): normal to try to prevent misting up.
Battery flat after 10 days: FAULT. Could be a dying battery. Could be aftermarket add-ons, or other fault such as bad ground causing network messages when there should be none.

My inside fan would come on and off at irregular times and it was a thermostat issue...

Default Thanks all

So my Jag isn't the only one EVER to do this! Quirky stuff, but love driving this car. Appreciate the responses.

Default Thanks for the suggestions

Thanks all:
The battery is new.
I will have to watch this more to see if it is really a concern, or normal.
The recording ammeter won't cost me anything, but will give me a really good 'picture' of whats going on to determine better if it is normal, or a fault.
"network messages" brings a thought to mind, I know very little about, and have not looked at yet, but considering I have removed the factory amplifier, and CD changer, and the radio head unit - could the cellular phone, and emergency messaging functions could be trying to send messages out - I have no idea, i do not have a SIMM card for the phone, and don't intend to get one the 'telematics' system is something I have not looked at, at all from a user or maintenance perspective and seams possible that the SType could be trying to 'call home" .....................ET Call HOME.....
Will have a read up on this a bit more.
Thanks
Pete

The network messages are supposed to stop after 45 mins and the car should switch to low current 30-50mA. But it must be locked and everything must be closed including the trunk (as if you're going on vacation, say).

pdr - which "fan"? There are soooo many.
The presence/absence of the sim won't affect any of the above. No it won't phone home.

Default not locked

Ok, so maybe if I left it locked would have been better.
I'm not looking for a problem, just thought the battery dead after 10 days was suggestive of one. My recording ammeter on it will give me a good picture, and maybe eventually I'll post what I capture on here.

Fan - was the defroster heard from outside, so probably was trying to reduce moisture - as this was only once I don't have enough experience to suggest it is a problem, or it is normal, time will tell.
