Default Inspection of inside of engine valve train

So as a part of getting my under the supercharger hose repair done I decided to also replace the valve cover gaskets and a bunch of things. The car sat for 4+ years so I was concerned that synthetic oil being what it is it tends to completely drain out back to the sump and I wanted him to prime the lubrication system. This is the video of what he found. As expected all the oil is gone but the remarkable condition of the engine surprised both of us. My car has close to 70K miles and I put 50K of those on the car. Have a look.

You see just how much that oil disappears while the car sits.

My other car that sits way too much also uses Mobile 1 and I have pre luber pump on that. maybe I should add a pump to this one as well because it sits under cover during the winter

Yes they are there now. Good job.
Spotless engine inside too. Who ever had it most certainly kept up with the oil changes. Otherwise you would have had oil stains cooked into all that fresh Aluminum!

I bought it in 2010? With less than 20K miles on it. It's close to 70K now.

looks great! I need to replace the seals on the solenoids. Both of mine leak slightly. Did you replace the seals on yours?

I might need to replace the drivers side cover as well because I think the hose connection for the intake line has a crack in it. Anyone know if the connection on the cover for the hose is removeable?

Ah .... mine's a 2005 so no VVT. Listen ... I had enough crap to deal with as it was. But that's why your list of parts was different from mine.
He invited me to be there for the initial startup and I declined as I figured I would be a distraction and potentially bad luck.

I had told him the story about my oil priming of my 1977 Maserati Bora V8 after a restoration of the engine compartment and rebuilding the top end. That was an enormous task and I had the care up on three sets of jack stands very high in the air so that I could just drop the entire engine and subframe down and roll it back out from under the car. A one man operation. This was in my garage in SF and while it was on those jack stands we had the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, the World Series one. The week before that hit I had added the third set of stands just for good measure

For the Jag he primed it vial the oil filter fixture. For my Maserati the main oil galley runs along the top of the V with a screw plug at the rear on top.
That's how I primed it, with an adapter on one of my spray guns. The same adapter for painting the inside of pipes. I used that during the restoration to get paint inside all of the structural members of the car using POR15 paint.

But I forgot to put the plug back in! Oil went everywhere . What a friggin mess even though I immediately got the engine shut down.

No, I decided I didn't want to watch so he filmed it instead.

I barely had a good enough film camera back then. There was no video quite yet not even digital cameras. But here's a photo of the completed subframe.

Opps!
That is a VERY good point and I usually forget that detail! Sorry!
No VVT on the STR UNTIL the 2006 and up models!
