RE: Interested in Buying an S- Type NEED HELP!
First of all, I would not recommend it. I think that you did the right thing by doing a bit of research before buying the car. I wish I had done so. Because I did not research the car, I did not know of the many problems inherent with this car. I bought my 2000 S-Type V8 with 53K miles on it. I thought that I got a good deal on it until the problems. I understand why the previous owner was so willing to get rid of it at such a cheap price. First my ignition coils went bad. Then my power seat developed a short and keeps blowing fuses. I am waiting for the transmission to go next followed by the window regulators. Go to roadfly.com and see all the posts on the S-Type forum. You will see that there are so many problems with this car. Another website is thelurch.com. Read on and let this determine whether you want to buy one or not. Good luck.

Thank yeah i have looked on roadfly.com it seems that the 00,01,02 models are not very reliable. But, I am uncertain as to whether or not the 03,04 models have improved and are a safe buy>??? ANYBODY know about these years? and if a v8 or v6 is better ?
thanks,

Go to thelurch.com as the maker of the website has an 03 S-type V8. He has more problems than most. Also you will see the many people who replied to his website (feedback forum) and will see the variety of problems with the newer models as well. If your heart is set on this car, just be sure to get an aftermarket warranty that will cover all the problems described.

RE: Interested in Buying an S- Type NEED HELP!
I am looking to buy a 2000 or 2001 V8 4 L .
I have looked through the various forums and noted the various problems.
valve cover gaskets
timing chain tensioners
ignition coils
coolant tank
thermostat
What else should I check?
Is this aftermarket warranty company any good? http://www.autorepairwarranty.com/
Anyone know of any reliable aftermarket warranty companies that cover Canada?
Are the parts by themselves expensive?
Any words of advice?
