Default Interesting event

So I went skiing these last couple of days and while the good news is I’m intact I had an interesting event with my Jaguar. I was coming down the mountain, car was placed in 2nd due to the angle of decline and things we going well till about half way a yellow fault comes on to the dash (DSC failure) then maybe seconds later the red fault comes in (engine fault / parking brake) and the vehicle goes into what I’m guessing to be that limp mode I’ve heard about. I just coasted down the mountain for maybe a quarter of a mile until I was able to pull over. I shut the vehicle off, then re-start it and the red engine fault is still on so I shut it off again, wait maybe 30 seconds, restart and all is well. Drove it 8 hours home today with no problems so now I’m wondering... Was this just a random event I shouldn’t worry about? Or should I take the car into the dealership? Did I do something wrong (is engine braking bad for these cars?) I’ve just about got the vehicle paid off and I planned on keeping it awhile longer (ok, I’m really looking to get the new XF) but I always told myself if this vehicle starts to have problems, I was going to dump it, but aside from this “minor, although serious inconvenient timing” problem, I’ve been problem free. On a side-note my good friend was with me, who any time cars comes us always ask, “how’s the Jaguar, giving you any problems yet?” I’m never going to hear the end of this now, LOL.

2006 S-type 3.0
38,000 miles on it now!

Was it raining or snowing outside? If so, it's more than likely moisture getting onto/into the TPS-Throttle Position Sensor or something else electrical. I've had this same issue as well as a few others here; there's a thread that Bull27 started that goes into this pretty well. If you run the codes and code P2135 comes up, then the water is getting onto/into the TPS.

I found that I had water coming into the engine compartment from the cowl under the windshield and it was dropping onto the TPS. I loosened the cowl and ran a bead of silicone between the cowl and the windshield. I also made sure that all the screws that held the cowl on were "water tight". I haven't had the problem since.

I believe yer on to it. I ran my STR into puddles then subsequently triggered the "Gear Box Fault".

No rain, no snow. Actually the weather was much to nice, it was sunny the whole time and all the snow had melted off the roads (I could of skipped the tire change I did).

I'm going to be by the dealership next week, will the vehicle store those codes even thought I don't have any faults list on the dash anymore?

My car (2005 STR) keeps its codes even after the warning lights have gone out. Hopefully yours will be the same way.

I'd try to find someone with a code reader who will read your codes for free before you spend money at the dealership having them run the codes. Get the codes, then do a search and see what threads come up. That could save you some $ and point you in the right direction.

I agree. Go to Autozone or Advance Auto Parts to have your codes read for free....

You could buy a hand-held unit for less than one trip to a dealer to have the engine (PCM) ones read.
Codes are retained for a considerable time but the MIL turned off if the fault has gone (for now).
