Default Interesting twist on the Ford ZF trans fluid

I got some information this weekend that I hadn't heard on here before so if I missed it sorry for the re-post.

We've had quite a number discussions on which fluid can be utilized in these transmissions and one was particularly reasonable and sounded eminently qualified since Ford uses this tranny in a number of their cars. Well, I was told to stay away from that fluid by a very reliable source. Apparently it has caused problems when used. When I remarked that it's the same transmission I was told that actually it's not. Ford manufactures their version themselves under license from ZF. This guy has zero motivation to feed me a line but I'm pretty sure he has the straight info on this. We didn't discuss any of the other fluids except of course that the Land Rover stuff is the same.

That is completely WRONG!! I have attached an official ZF transmission document. Note the different models listed. They include BMW,Audi and Ford. ZF makes the same transmission (6HP/26X/26/28X/28/32) with minor variations for multiple car companies. Others include our Jaguars, Bentley, Hyundai, Volvo, VW, Range Rover, Kia. None of these car companies build this transmission.

In 2006 ZF released the second generation of this transmission. For warranty purposes I would stick to the factory fluid. If not in warranty look at the other threads for fluid substitutes. We are now lucky because the new vendor in California (CTSC) has the correct ZF fluid for a somewhat reasonable price of $17/Liter.

ZF have just broken ground in SC for a new plant to build their 9 speed transmission, I wonder what kind of liquid gold will be needed for that baby.

I'm guessing liquid nitrogen kept at a constant minus 272 degrees by an onboard superchiller....
