Issues with air conditioning
Hi guys
I’ve owned my 1999 S-type for a week now. I had the AC recharged because the AC wasn’t very cold. The issue appeared to have resolved itself because I had ice cold air blasting out of the vents for 3 days. I then turned my car on yesterday morning and the AC stopped working completely.
I have tried searching and researching here but my symptoms don’t seem to match what others have experienced. It was an immediate cessation of cold air, not gradual. Both driver’s and passenger side are the same temp, so I don’t think the DCCV is an issue.
First thing I did today was change the number one fuse (just to eliminate it as a possibility). And now instead of warm air, I only get hot air coming through the vents.
I’m assuming it’ll be a compressor issue and that will just need replacing and hopefully I will go back to having cold air?
If anyone has any insights, I’d gratefully appreciate them. I’ve had a quick look for compressors and they aren’t exactly cheap so I don’t want to be wasting money.
Thanks again.

Don't get stuck on how all was good and then suddenly it wasn't. Be mindful of any recent work (refrigerant charge, fiddling with fuses), but troubleshoot based on what is present right in front of you.
Using the guide, please first check the operation of the DCCV, as detailed in post #2. For all we know, that new fuse failed and now the DCCV is dumping full heat into the cabin. The check of the DCCV is first for a reason, so please don't skip it.
After that, if some cooling is present (duct temp lower than ambient), work through post #4 for insufficient cooling. If no cooling at all (duct temp equal to or warmer than ambient), post #5 is your friend.
Keep us posted.

In fact, to get to the breakdown, you need to have to remove the whole dashboard to replace it. I get very nervous whenever something breaks in my car because it is always expensive to fix this. I had a similar problem with the air conditioner in our living room. It began to blow warm air, and it was impossible to switch to a cold mode. I turned for help to the airconservicing service center specializing in breakdowns and air conditioner repairs. I thought I would have to change some expensive parts, making it easier for me to buy a new one. But to my surprise, it was much more affordable than repairing the car.
