Default jag S type R code P1254???

Anyone know what this code is all about. I just started my car this morning and I get the engine light on, so I hook up my OBD2 scanner and gives me this code so I looked it up on google and dont know exactly whats it all about

P1254 Pedal Correlation PDS2 and LPDS High

Anyone know what the code is about?

Update, once I cleared the code, and started it up, the check engine light went away the error is gone now, but I'm still puzzled what that code is about on my 03 STR.

You have an electronic throttle so your gas pedal is not hooked to anything. All it is a position sensor. It is a very critical sensor so Jaguar backed it up with another one. Looking at your code I "think" it is saying the two sensors did not match so therefore something is in error. It is pretty rare but I have heard of this error and if it keeps coming back you will probably need to replace the gas pedal assembly. Be aware there are also two sensor on the throttle body for the same reason. With all of Toyota runaway cars I think this is probably a good safety feature but it does add complication and expense.

.....OMG!!! "Replacing the Pedal assembly" sounds EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!! I hope to god its just one of those two sensors on the throttle body causing it and nothing else. I will keep an eye on it,and thank you soooooooooooooo much for explaining it to me.

I recently answered your "brake pad" question with a suggestion to wait for an answer from our very knowledgeable forum members and use of the "Search forum" feature. I recently purchased a used gas pedal assembly ($225; used) for my 03 STR. If you are indeed in need of a adjustable gas pedal assembly; call "Nuckle Busters" (Pa.). They didn't have one in stock but procured it for me used at $225 versus $325+ new.

I just picked up an 03 STR as well and when I took it to the mechanic he gave me this code with " throttle valve spring (limp home) malfunction. The car seems to run fine and does not have a check engine light illuminated.

Thoughts?

Get an elm327 (use Search to read more) - ebay about $20. Then you can do your own diagnosis any time and post details so you can get more help.

Okay so I bought one on e-bay and got it hooked up today. The car had been sitting for about 5 days due to icy weather. Today when I started it I got the check engine light. So I hooked er up and got p1254 again, even though it had been cleared last week when it was getting a tune up. The software that came with the elm is pretty crappy and it's only a "demo" version so it won't tell me what the codes mean without paying to upgrade. What's the best way to fix this error once and for all?

Very good value for money, especially the free software

As it's a "P1" code (in OBD, make-specific) you'd be wise to look it up for exactly your model car, rather than trust any software to do it right (most won't). JTIS has the meaning or P2003MY_X202.pdf was posted by bob gauff (motorcarman) here https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...808#post268808. And others have had it so Search for what they did. If they followed up.....

Thanks for the tip, I was able to look up a few codes. The one I am concerned about is P1254-Throttle "limp home" spring malfunction. What do I need to do to fix this?

Okay I looked it up and the only failure noted is throttle body for that fault. the internal throttle return spring for limp home force throttle shutdown probobly broke. you need a throttle body

Great. Any idea what I should expect to pay for both parts and labor? Thanks for the reply btw.

At a dealership, I would guess at least $1,500 and I won't be surprised if the final cost approaches $2,000. In May 2009, our throttle body was replaced under warranty after a limp home mode incident while my wife was driving. The dealer told me that if this job had been out-of-pocket to me, that's the range it would have fallen into. OUCH....

I called around and priced a new one at about $600, used ones are $300 or less with about an hour of labor, so hopefully it won't be anywhere near that.

Nice find, I hadn't seen that one. My problem with these is that they come with only a 30 day warranty. That's a lot of money to spend on a used item with only 30 days behind it. But the OEM units are outrageously expensive. Not sure what to do at this point.
