Unhappy jag timing chain tensioners? plz help?

can someone please help me out i just need to know what size the new aluminum housing smaller timing chain tensioners bolts are my kit didnt come with any and also i found only one guy that said the early lincoln ls 3.9 kit works not the later one is this true please help

sorry its a 2001 jaguar s-type 4.0L with vvt

Can you reuse the old bolts or are they a one time use only?

tbird6 - I believe (if I recall correctly) the newer style tensioners utilize slightly shorter bolts. To the OP - go to the auto or big box store and purchase shorter bolts - just match up the thread size (it's metric for sure)

yeah they do use the shorter bolts i was just hoping if someone might have had the mesurements of them would be easier because im not sure how much shorter they are

i know the oem bolt is 8mm head and a 10mm thread but not sure of length

That's too bad that they don't include the new bolts. What a cheap and disappointing product!

i know right but hey for $177 bucks i cant complain lol and thats shipped just was hoping that maybe someone might know well looks like i will try and figure out what size i need unless someone chimes in and knows thanks everyone for your help

I don't know why this is a challenge. The original bolts are too long. So, stick a pick tool in the hole and measure the depth. Then, buy a bolt same thread with washer in head of bolt that is about 1/4 less in depth. Lowes, Home Depot, etc.

i sent it back and got a new kit and it came with 3 bolts not 4 but thats ok i went and bought the grade 5 bolts and works great also got the new kit for $172 plus $10 shipping and didnt need to buy the high priced tools made my own and the car works perfect and smooth now thanks everyone who helped out

1.00 x 35mm grade5 bolts from homedepot i believe they were $1.19 for two in a pack and the timing kit i used the 2001 lincoln ls 3.9L part number is TK4162 from DNJ ENGINE COMPONETS very well made kit but i got it from rockauto i just checked and they are all out again they cant keep them in stock so keep checking one will come up soon i know mine did and i grabbed it or you can get it from them direct DNJ ENGINE just call them they are pretty cool always a good help hope this helps everyone out instead of buying the expensive kits they want to mark up so high just to make money off of people well thanks again everyone for your help she still running great and nice and smooth likr brand new because i never drive it hardly she just sits mostly in the garage she just hit 101,000 miles tonight driving her home from the shop

just incase if anyone is wondering the crankshaft bolt is 150-180 ft. lbs. and the camshaft gear and vvt gear bolts are 80-90 ft. lbs. i did 180 on the crank bolt and 90 on the cam and vvt gears with blue locktite on the crank bolt got info from jag dealer found a really good guy to help me out there good tech guy was very helpful my advise is to take your time and triple check your work and turn crank by hand two full turns and check again before putting back together i always triple check my work so i dont come out with extra bolts lol anyways good luck everyone i hope this also helps out

Grade 5 bolts for that type of application? That doesn't sound right. What are the originals?

orginals are grade 5/ 8.8 bolts with 8mm head

she is still running great except i believe the right side lower control arm bushing is squeaking not sure cant tell has new struts it just started well anyone else have this problem let me know thanks
