I'd mention the additive but you can hardly have missed the other mentions

Ah yes, the old cracked nipple syndrome. Quite painlfull.

Yes that's my bet too. I pointed it out twice to them. "We know nuthing colonel Hogan!" Then a quick exit back to the guard house.

If I get chance tomorrow I'll point that one out.

Played around with it a bit and discovered a very small crack at the base of the nipple coming off the fill neck.

If you're at the dealer pop the hood and play with the nipple a bit...

It'll point out the leak... just be careful it will be brittle don't snap it off, you don't want them to say you broke it.

Take care,

George

If the guy can see the issue tomorrow then a call from him should set things straight?

I've been down this road a few times before. Many moons ago when Lancia was still bringing cars here I had a Beta coupe and was driving one hot summer weekend in the central California valley when I saw a Lancia Scorpian (look it up) stranded. So I stopped to render assistance to the driver and his gorgeous model passenger. Well it turned out to be the regional director for the west coast. That went a long way towards getting issues resolved on my car.

Just for grins I did an Autotrader search for any 2007 to 2008 model year cars in the $12K to $14K range with 60K or less miles. This would be an equivalent mileage and price for my Jaguar. All I got was fleet bait. Interestingly enough the search came up with some s**tboxes I had as rentals while either having my Jaguar worked on or while on vacation. This really pointed out the value of the the S-Type when you really do some price comparison shopping.

I was doing the same before I bid on mine. I have found with lots of cars that you can't take NADA or Kellys as the Bible. The O3 I got books out at 11500.00 top retail with a clear CarFax. Try & find one for that with 20,000 miles on it. I saw dealers asking 12-13 for ones with around 50thou. So when I'm trying to figure out what something will sell for, I look at the books and also asking prices.

My question is semi related to this thread.
If I were to lease an '06-07 S type, where and how would I be able to figure the residual value 3-4 years from now? I've searched around and the only sites that might give me the info want me to subscribe to them and give them money. I really don't want to do that if at all possible.

Hi All

I see that you have discussed about pricing for 03 Jag S-Type R, I believe frombenz2jag initiated this (thank you for it). Would you happen to have the same price estimates for the type S base 3.0
Thanks, Marc

It's pretty easy to find? EBay can be searched for completed auctions. This will give you some of the low end pricing.

I got my car on eBay for $14k with 55k miles on it. I think people fear these cars once the factory warranty expires. Repairs at Jag dealers are not cheap. Ford actually improved reliability in my opinion.

Ford improved reliability greatly. I'm not worried about any XF. My car is more attractive and has a more aggressive stance/posture about it.

As far as wholesale auction prices go, if you purchased a low milage 2007 STR it would depreciate about $10000 after 4 years.

Hi All,

Thanks for the answer. I will check on the ebay complete auctions. I see a lot in those threads that Ford improved the reliability, however I have 3 questions
1 - is Jaguar still Ford owned? I thought they had sold it to an Indian company
2 - are the jaguar spare parts, ford parts?
3 - if Ford has improved the rliability how does this address 1) a Jaguar S from 2004 that is discontinued 2)that Ford did not own at the time
in other word, is a Jaguar S type 3.0 V6 a reliable car?

1. Tata Motors in India purchased Jaguar from Ford in the 2007/2008 timeframe.

2. Many parts from your 2004 S-Type are indeed Ford/Motorcraft parts. Read the FAQs at the top of the S-Type forum page to learn much more on this subject.

3. Your 2004 S-Type was built under Ford ownership. Ford greatly improved Jaguar's quality and probably saved the marque from the scrap heap of history.

Yes, the S-Type 3.0 is a reliable car as long as the well-known flaws are resolved and the car is properly maintained. Again, read the FAQs for details....

I Got my car from ove which is a dealers auction. We got the car for 10k and they intern sold it to me for 12k would have been less but i had them ship the car instead of picking it up. But finding 05+ str's through the auction is pretty hard. 03 04's are a dine a dozen. But 05+ there was only 2 in the country at the time. The car i bought was advertised on ebay for 14k with 85k miles i got it for 2k.

OVE is the "retail" side of the dealer auction network. Typically its better inventory, but it's cars that don't generally make it to the sales because either the seller wants over MMR, or it gets scooped up before it runs.

STR's of all years are hard through the auctions. Trust me I track them all, STR's XJR's and Xk8's / R's.

Take care,

George
