Jaguar S-Type losing power. Please Help.

+1 on JagV8 - spark plugs are typically not the culpret of a misfire. Your mechanic should have the ability to test each coil before you go ahead and change them. There is a specific tool that measures the high voltage output and arc duration of the coil and can detect the slightest misfire the coil is producing.
So, I take it your mechanic found no evidence of oil in the spark plug well?
Good Luck.

Just thinking out loud here:
As I have been thinking about this issue. If the plugs are new and there are newer coils in the vehicle and only one cylinder is misfiring, I don't believe that the cc is bad or going bad nor the up or down stream sensors. Since there is no sign of oil in the spark plug well either.
There have been cases in the 3.0s that either in lower intake or upper intake (Plenum) that a gasket or seal is going bad to one of the cylinders, in this case cylinder #5. I do remember a fellow member had this problem with no codes (weird but true).

Just my 2¢, but my 2001 3.0 had a similar problem, which turned out to be chaffed coil wires by the fuel rail connector. My problem was intermittent until I started blowing coil fuses. It may be worth the minute that it takes to look at the wire loom. It's awkward to get to, I suggest lying on the engine (hey, my bay is clean!). I did all of the above, including replacing the fuel pump, and ended up spending a few cents on tape and plastic loom.
Again, it's just my 2¢

Funny thinh is the could was new... im gonna have all the gaskets and other stuff changed over when i get it serviced but everything seems to be fine now.
Thankyou everybody for the help and advise.

Sib,
This is exactly how my problems started. The car would only hesitate with the RPM's at first. The engine light would only flash for a second then go off for days. As time wore on it got worse and worse. I changed all my plugs and coils and IMT o-rings and intake gaskets. Unfortunately this did not fix my problem as the car idles rough and will not go above 3000 RPM's. Keep us informed as to how you get yours fixed.

Abonano,
After changing the plugs and coils I started the car and she ran rough. I started unplugging the coils one at a time to see if I could find a bad one (even though they were new). With the car running I unplugged 5 coils and the engine ran worse each time indicating that the 5 coils I did this to were in fact firing. Of course I could not reach the one farthest back on the passenger side under the intake manifold. I'll have to dissasemble the whole deal again to get to it. So I thought I'd look for other things before going through that...............

If it still doesnt pick up anything try to get readings while the car is running, if the engine misfires it should catch the problem.
good luck

I found a code P0355 which indicates there may be a short in the plug to the coil pack or an open circuit (no ground). Problem is mine is on #5 which is the one in the back under the intake manifold. SO I get to disassemble the whole car again to look at it...............

you may want to check your arrangement.
just a thought....

They were numbered like this.............
Front of Vehicle
4 1
5 2
6 3 firing order was 1-4-2-5-3-6
2003 and later V6 engines were numbered like this................
Front of Vehicle
2 1
4 3
6 5 firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6
They totally changed the V6 engine after Ford bought the company it looks like.

2001 Jaguar Firing Orders
This was confirmed by my local Jag dealer garage.
I dont pretend to be an expert, i can only speak of my experience with my car, it could be that other models and regions had different configs.
