Just verifying trans procedures

Just verifying trans procedures
I have some lurching, some surging, but more importantly, some 'stall' (slight pause after the pedal is depressed, then abrupt acceleration - not sure if this would be lurch) when leaving from a stop if I'm not very gentle with the throttle. No codes.
This is a 55k mile 03 R that I've had for about 6 months.
Besides looking for vacuum leaks, I should proceed by having a shop 1) check all tcm / ecu updates, plus 2) trans service with sleeve, and if problems persist, 3) new torque converter. I don't believe the battery cable disconnect would help me, and in fact would hurt if indeed I have a misfire, correct? Will they be able to check firing history when they are checking for updates?
Any price guess - $200 for software, $300 for trans, $400 for used tc + $500 install?
The shop specifically states they work on Jags and use Autologic.
Would like to get this scheduled for Monday if possible.
Brutal, if you were only 600 miles closer...
Thank you in advance

The 'stall' you describe is classic lurch, variant 2.
Jaguar S-Type ZF Gearbox Lurch fault
Try the reflash first and see what results you get.

You need the adaptions cleared and then best to have both reflashed since they chat to each other multiple times during each shift. Imagine only one has the newer version of the chat protocol
You can't assume anything from the VIN about this. You could possibly read the software versions but even then you'd need the adaptions cleared and can't do that DIY.
