Default Key?

When I bought the car it only came with one key and fob. The fob is not a problem since the same place that did the remote start on my old Buick says he can (probably) program a generic for about US$30 as long as the original still works. I've found the DIY threads for the fobs.

The key is a whole other question. I get the same answer from all the local locksmiths. "Dealership only item" and one mentioned US$400 a pop. Not to mention the 180 mile each way trip to Omaha. Not that I'd mind a road trip but between the construction, congestion and Iwegians it's not a fun trip Minneapolis is only a few miles further but the traffic there is a sure cure for constipation.

I already have an iCarsoft LR V2.0 Jaguar/Land Rover model and will be putting Mongoose v130 on a laptop and ordering the cable for it. I don't think either of those will program a chipped key.

In 45 years of driving I've never lost a key, forget where I left it yes but never lost one, but I don't want to be without at least 2 keys for anything. Do I have any other options?

Thanks

I think it's a fairly common key also used by Ford cars - try a car locksmith. I know over here some can do them (and the later cars).

Our S-type key is called a :Tibbe" pattern key and is readily available in the aftermarket. ILCO, a locksmith supply carries them, so a visit to a competent automotive locksmith should work:

My key and fob are separate units on my 2000 S-Type.

There are no locksmiths in town that will do the keys, they don't want to spend the money when there are so few Jags here and until recently the Ford dealer serviced them.

Discussed it with my Financial Manager while we were in bed last night. She wants to take a road trip to Omaha anyway so she can drive back.

One problem solved but she's been searching the web for used XKs and XJs. We may be a 2 Jaguar family sooner than I expected.
