Default Key fob

Anybody know a reliable place (in US or Canada) where I can buy a key fob for '01 S-type? I've seen some on e-bay but I'm not sure if fobs were year or VIN-specific.
Dealer wants $260 for it, which I think is a bit unreasonable...

Several of us, on this board, have bought some off ebay. Your key fob should have a series of numbers on the back and as long as they match up, it should work? The bad news is that the dealer is the only one who can program the key fob. Buy at least two in the event that one doesn't work, you shouldn't pay more than $30 used & $50 new...

That price the dealerquoted you probably includes , labor which is $100 an hour, and new key laser cut and the remote controller? In the past I've seen new uncut keys on ebay cheaper than the dealers.

Nope, they quoted me $260 for the fob and $100 for labor.
I got a quote for programming from an independent Jag specialist shop of only $50. Just need the fob.
Unfortunately I cannot compare the part numbers because when I bought my car (used) it came without a fob.

Am I missing something? Is there a reason you dont want to get the $40 one from the above site?

$50 is reasonable for the labor, $100 is definatley not!
The nimber on the back of one is XR83-15K601-AA.

Is it possible to purchase a newer style fob (switch blade style) and program it for an early S Type (02) that used the standard style fob?

IIRC it's not.
If you search the forum I'm sure you will find some old threads discussing this.
Have fun and Bon Chance
