Key Fob Now Working Right

I'm in a bit of a bind. I lost one key fob and now the other one isn't working properly. It seems to lock the doors OK but it doesn't want to unlock the doors unless you press repeatedly on the button and are standing right next to the car. We have changed the battery and it didn't help.
Can I buy a key fob off Ebay and have it programmed for my car? Do I need to buy a certain serial number fob like I did for my Cadillac CTS or will any S-Type fob work?
What about the blade (key)? Can you get those locally and have them cut for your car? How expensive is the blade and the programming? I hear it pretty pricy at the dealer, so do locksmith's have the capability to do this?
Thanks in advance!

Typical behavior for a key fob that probably just needs a good cleaning. Take it apart, clean the circuit board, microswitches, and back of the rubber keypad with alcohol and Q-Tips, allow all parts to air-dry, then reassemble and test it. Whenever I do this, my S-Type key fob has always been restored to full operation....

Doh! The title of the thread should say Key Fob is NOT Working Properly!
Yeah, I'd like to buy a spare as well as get this one fixed or replaced. I'll try cleaning this one and see how it does.
Any additional info on cost and where to go to get the key blade cut and the fob programmed would be appreciated.

Looking at Ebay I see several used remotes with the control numbers listed. I'm assuming these control numbers are the numbers you need to know to see if it would work with your car so no programming would be needed?
Where would I go to find out the control numbers for my particular car's key fob in the unlikely event that I could find the exact same numbers on a key fob on Ebay?
Thanks in advance.

I recently bought 2 x fobs from eBay for my 2002 S Type. One was $50 new and the other was $5 used. The dealership charged $75 to program both fobs. I also ordered a spare key through the Jag dealer; these keys have a transponder chip built into them that is mated to the car. The key was $175 at cost including programming to the car (my Dad used to work for Jag and gets most things at cost through the dealer). For MY 2003 + you need the "switchblade" key / fob combo. These can also be purchased off eBay, but I think you need to order the spare key through a dealer. I also think the switchblade fobs can be self programmed (meaning you don't need a dealer to do it for you; this is not the case with the < 2002 fobs.

Ahh.. OK, sorry... I thought they might be user programmable.
In any case, you can get the fobs off eBay. This will save a lot of money over ordering from a Jag dealer. My 2 fobs cost $55 for the fobs, $75 for programming at Jag dealer; total $130 for what would have been ~$600 through the dealer.
I ordered the key through the Jag dealer for $175, but I am sure I could have got it done at a locksmith more cheaply, I just didn't have time to hunt around any more.
When I got the car it only had 1 key, no fob... it is well worth it to have 2 fobs and 2 keys imo.
