Default Key fob problem

Good morning gentleman,

My Key fob does not unlock the doors it will lock but no unlock.
I changed the battery but still no unlock.
Do I need a new FOB? I really hope its not I have been reading alot of post about the cost and it sounds like a real hassle.

Dirty or failing microswitch probably. What about the other fob? All the cars came with a minimum of 2.

I had the same problem. Cleaning the micro switches fixed it.

If you have a failed switch, they are available on ebay pretty cheap: 3X New Switch Click Button Repair Remote Key Fob Jaguar s Type XJ8 XJR XJ XK S | eBay

Your local electronics repair shop should easily be able to replace this.

Rubbing alcohol will due the job, but commercial aerosol contact cleaner from Radio Shack or Home Depot usually has a lubricant which might extend the life in addition to cleaning.

I would plan on getting a second key and FOB. You are at risk with only one set. You can get them on EBay for a decent price and then the dealer usually needs to program it. Don't get the key or FOB from dealer. Just too high in price.

I bought two fobs and one key on ebay.

The dealer couldn't get the key to programme, so I got another from them and returned the first one, the dealer key was actually much cheaper than the internet one.

It pays to check.

Thanks guys my eyesight is getting so bad it was hard to see it just to change the battery! lol
I will have to get my readers on and see if I can clean it out good. I have been looking on Ebay for a extra FOB and key and looked up most of the post's for replacements, any way to distinguish a factory key from a knockoff?

Best bet is to check the seller's feedback. If all you see is people complaining about getting garbage fobs, find another seller. Here is the guy I used and had no problems...
