Default Key Help Please

Hi not sure if this is in the correct place if not I do apologise im basicly looking to get a complete spare key and fob I've emailed a jaguar dealer and have been given the prices below is there another route or is this the only way to get the key direct from jaguar

many thanks in advance

Fob £111.61 inc VAT
Key £114.77 inc VAT

To code this completed unit into the vehicle we would charge £120 inc VAT,
this brings the total to £346.38 inc vat.

If you have the original key there are a number of places that can clone the key for a much lower price. The problem is programming the remote, that has to be done by a Jaguar dealer or an independant garage with the IDS/SDD diagnostic system.

Welcome to the forum btw, you should stop by our New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and introduce yourself.

A few locksmiths but not many can do it over here. Dealer will be by far most costly. 2002 could be either new or old type so need VIN.

If you have the Ford type key, pre facelift, anywhere that can copy a ford key can copy the jag key, I had one done on Stanley road, Liverpool, for £25

Oh, Ok, mine was the earlier one, the one with the separate fob.

Are those keys "coded" like the early keys?

It looks basically the same as a ford key, have you tried ford's as jag was owned by them and lots of jag parts and systems from that era are basically ford kit

That's the kind only a few locksmiths (Timpson?) can code (but almost anyone can cut the blade).
A jag indy might.
You can buy the blank parts fairly cheaply - ebay etc. Only ome dealers will work on a part you supply.
Beware that UK and other countries use a different transmitting frequency so don't buy wrong parts!

The keys were most definitely different between Ford and Jaguar.
Not sure why but everything was different. The key and the FOB.

I was under the impression Tibbe keys were standardised across the makes

ie Code reading "Tibbe" keys for Jaguar

My wife's 2003 Lincoln LS just has a conventional two sided Ford key and the fob is seperate from the key and it's not a switch blade key either.

in the U K nearly all ford keys are tibbe keys, and have been for many years.
In fact I can't recall driving a ford in the last 10-15 years that hasn't used one and I've driven neatly every model sold in uk.

I had one cut for my 1999 S type

UK ford key - Google Search

the Ford transit remote fob is the same as the early s types

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/vie...d=200846807441

so at least in the UK, jaguar used Ford technology and parts apart from the gearbox.

this is a UK site that specialises in ford keys, all are tibbe type except 1

Lots of things changed 2002.5MY (2003 USA) and then became non-Ford thus also non-Lincoln LS. Don't assume the 2002.5MY is a Ford-like Tibbe even if it's a Tibbe. I don't know exactly what happened but the assumption could bite.
