Default key stuck in ignition

Transmission shifts into park properly. Interlock cable is attached at shifter. Key tumbler has been lubed. The key will pull out around 1/2". My guess after searching forums for a week is interlock problem or key/tumbler problem? I removed the panel below steering column hoping for access to ignition lock assembly and release pin. Yikes! Do I need to remove radio panel in dash for access? Also, I have the shifter assembly loose and not sure if the white plastic block on interlock cable/arm just pops off like shift cable. I was worried about braking something. This is a 2005 s-type final face lift . Thanks.

When did this start?
After you started taking things apart? Any idea how worn the key is?

I am just guessing as I have never seen this posted before.

It started when I used my new key. I had the person that cut 3 keys for me look at it but he thought it was a shifter interlock problem?

Sure sounds like the key was not cut right? That still should not cause that but I am unsure.

Same problem as yours. How did you solve it?

Before you install it check your 3 keys to see if they work or not.

Still could be a key problem.

What? Your key has been stuck in the ignition for nearly two years?!?

Or did you find a work-around?

Other key works in door, but not able to remove key from ignition so can not try it? I purchased a complete set of new locks and keys and so far changed trunk and glove box only. The door looks hard due to window removal, waiting for cooler weather and no rain.

OK, here is a update. To get the key out, use high pressure air and blow in keyhole while jiggling key. It supposedly makes the disc inside move around to release, The dealer did not cut the key properly. The original works fine,

it’s just hanging on the dust cover because the spine got cut too low.

any strip of metal does the same job

Capt this has to be one of the oldest updates ever! Over 7 years, better late than never.

That's because I just decided to fix it so I can sell it. It was like these new cars where you can leave the keys in your pocket!

New update! A not local Jaguar dealer told me to wire wheel the CRAP out of it. It worked! I also polished it with some fine compound so it is very smooth. I hope this helps someone?

Default Out Of What?

Any chance you could explain what you wire-wheeled and polished for those of us who might think you mean the key?

Ok, since we are reviving dead threads here, allow me to make a stupid remark, which sadly actually just tells it as it is... :

>> It was like these new cars where you can leave the keys in your pocket!

Great. This would have made sure that no one could steal your key for the last few years - at least not without the car attached...
