Also, is the CD good for an '05 like yours/mine? I know there is differences from 04-05.

I'm fighting with my town right now to widen the top half of my 22' wide driveway so I can park a car on the side of it without blocking the garage doors.
Take care,
George

I'm content with my home but jealous of how much property you guys in less populated states have. I have .71 of an acre (which is theoretically huge here), but its all in the back yard, and still way too cramped for my taste.

^ beautiful home.
Now for the bad news guys...The cabin I shown is not quite mine yet...I am in the process of buying it..... We are having trouble meeting on a common price.
I don't want a house payment
They are asking $279,000
I want to pay no more than $250,000
Hopefully soon to be resolved.

I need to move to another state... My house is 3100sq ft, and I'd be giving it away at 2.5x that. And the property taxes are 17k.
Unbelievable.... Where is this "cabin" at?
Take care,
George

Yes indeed George, if your goal is much more square footage for less than half the cost (and property taxes about one-eighth of what you're currently paying), you need to flee New Jersey for North Carolina. I have no idea how NY/NJ residents with blue-collar jobs can afford to buy anything larger than a two-room hut there. The housing prices and property tax amounts are astronomical....

The cabin is in Southern ohio, it sits up on top of a hill thats 5 acrs. overlooking a private lake.
There are prob. 5 other houses built around the lake.
I wish it had more property..... also since it's so high up my jag. runs really bad for awhile when I first start it in the driveway.
But all in all I love it.

I really don't NEED much more square footage, I'm single with no children remember...
Heck I have a 5 bedroom 3.5 bath home now that I dont use all the rooms in. I use the master bedroom, the kitchen, the family room, and the one downstairs bedroom is my theater room.
My formal living and dining rooms are rarely if ever used. Can't tell you the last time I went into the back two bedrooms upstairs.. BUT the thing is at least here in NJ, half the reason for owning the house is the neighborhood. I COULD have a smaller house, but here's the downside. First, no one builds bachelor pads with few large rooms (such as I have in my house, my family room is 31x17) They build small homes that are practical for families and end up being little mazes.
Secondly, the problem here is that unless you live in a higher dollar neighborhood, the urban element encroaches quickly. I dont need to worry about gangs, drugs, shootouts, carjackings etc (All less than 10 miles away in Trenton).
As far as Blue Collar workers, well for one the salaries are pretty high up here. Average is 73k, but secondly most of them simply don't. They either rent, or live in condos / apartments.
Unless I start my own consulting / engineering firm (which would probably have me constantly traveling back up here) , I wonder how much employment opportunity, and at what salary level there is down there.
Take care,
George

George,
Regardless of what the feds or the markets say, we're still in a recession so the job market remains very tough. The good news is that Raleigh/Durham/Cary/Chapel Hill remains one of the top IT employment areas in the country due to the presence of so many world-class companies in Research Triangle Park here (Google it if you've never heard of it). IT project management and engineering jobs here can range from $80,000 to $125,000 and up, depending upon what you can find and what you can bring to the table. What doesn't exist anymore are the huge bonuses that many IT companies were paying back when tech was flying high and raking in the revenue back in the late 90s. Those bonuses could often double your annual earnings, but they're pretty much gone now. Most IT folks here have felt massive relief that they've managed to stay in their jobs over the past 3 to 4 years with all the layoffs and closures. I believe it will be years before employment gets back to a new normal (whatever that turns out to be), but the Fabulous Late 90s are gone for good....
Your cost-of-living would be monumentally less here. If you spend some time investigating that, it will make you cry when you realize how much money it is costing you to live where you do....
