Leaper hole cover

The OE fired enamel "growler" badge seems to be more expensive than the chrome "leaper" in the aftermarket. I get that you are most likely concerned with potential damage to your sheet metal in the event of an aggressive extraction. The leaper does not, however, seem to have the magnetic attraction of the Mercedes three pointed star (I have lost a few of those over the years).
That said, Growler badges are available on "the bay" or from your local Jaguar dealer.
BTW, it would be a nice idea if you posted a brief intro on the New Members Forum when you get a chance...

I purchased this badge for my buddy Todd who purchased Jon89's 2005 S Type a few months back.
Todd gave the vehicle to his college aged daughter. We thought it was a good idea to temporarily remove leeper while Maggie is at school. She likes it so much, she doesn't want the leeper back on at this point.

If you look here the badges are $99 and $119 when the leapers are around $20..https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...20hood%20badge

I actually prefer the look of the car without the leaper, but also was afraid it would be cut off by a vandal, so I got a growler badge on E bay for about $89.00. Steep for what it is, but it it makes the car look sportier and a bit more modern, imo. Several strands of Oral B superfloss drenched in Goo Gone and about 45 minutes took care of the double-sided tape keeping the leaper on after I unbolted it from under the hood.

Nice result, Rhett. AND, it does match the engine displacement! Could have been a dealer "Leaper delete" option...but there's a separate thread for that.
You have the newer grille, with the growler on it. I kept my leaper, AND added the 4 liter badge to the spot where the growler would be. OK, so there's a bit of overhang, but I do get the best of both worlds...a badge and Leaper.

When I got the car, it attracted a number of unsolicited compliments from strangers, until I took off the leaper. Now no one remarks on it at all, which suits me just fine. Point being, in the U.S. a lot of people think the only thing that makes it a Jaguar is the hood ornament. I was unsure about putting a growler above a growler, but I've since replaced the stock grille with aftermarket metal basket weave grilles from Welsh Enterprises (partly because the splitter vane fell off while I was driving!) and, for whatever reason, the growler on the aftermarket grille is less noticeable. It works, for me, but it would have been better with the original grille shape, imo.
