Default LIMP MODE!Every warning possible.ds

So I'm sort of at my wits end with this Jag I bought in January. Lots of repairs. Two days ago I got the dreaded DSC not available and engine system fault plus every other bad warning. Then it goes into limp mode. Which I literally cannot believe exists. So dangerous.

Once the car starts up it runs for a bit and it runs fine. No noises ..nothing.

I've read all the threads which were really helpful. Had my battery tested. it was just slightly low no need to replace (I've seen some say that even a little drain can cause it but its hard to believe). The codes the first time tested pointed to the throttle body. Yesterday just P1000 and P045 ...Additionally my driver side window is not going down.

As I have been reading through these threads I noticed a few common threads. Many of these complaints came about during the summer months. I also noticed peoples AC's were running warm. Mine did that when it first started. Could that be involved?

I did read this in an XJ8 forum for people having the limp mode issue.....

""Investigations have determined that for the markets listed above, extended idle periods in very hot ambient climates with the air conditioning in operation, can cause the throttle position sensor
to fail resulting in diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P0121 on vehicles up to 2005MY or P2135 being stored on 2005MY vehicles onwards, with the vehicle going into limp home mode and the restricted performance indicator lamp displayed on the instrument pack"

I could really use some help. I am NOT replacing the throttle body even if that is the fix....enough is enough. Tomorrow I am going to try and find the throttle body plug and clean it out....could put throttle body cleaner.....thoughts? Thank you very much in advance

I should also mention - A gas station attendant ripped my gas cap strap off and then I lost it....Have been using one but it doesn't quite fit. I honestly thought a gas cap a next to no importance other than having your check engine light on....The tank has that little silver cover which you push in with the gas hose handle.....Believe me I could easily be wrong here

There's no P045. P codes are P and then 4 more chars (normally all 4 are digits).

+1 on information above and what is the condition of the battery? Many of the electrical 'gremlins' chased on these forums are the result of a failing or weak battery. Must have a minimum of 12.6 volts across the terminals after ten minutes with the ignition in the OFF position. If not, replace the battery.

Are you sure about that line in the sand? Several years ago, my '02 V6 had a throttle body fault (P1586?) and restricted performance. The fix was a guaranteed used module on eBay for a whopping $75. It was easy to replace and the fault never returned.

As others have already mentioned:

Engine and year, please.

The fault code should be a single letter followed by 4 numbers.

And before you totally poo-poo the battery idea, please read this:

Admittedly, a new battery can be a gamble. If you'd rather know for sure before replacement, several forum members have reported success by hooking up a battery charger overnight. Try that for a week and see if the car now behaves itself. If so, you have some sort of battery-related issue going on.

You've mentioned many repairs in the last few months. Can you please provide more details, in case something was related?

Also, in addition to DSC not available, are you getting parking brake and cruise control faults? They often appear together. I have a theory this grouping may be caused by a worn ignition switch if a new battery doesn't help. These three circuits share a common pole in the switch. Just a theory, still not proven, but worth considering. I can provide more details if interested.

BTW, I see you're from my old hometown of Pembroke. Small world. SLRHS class of 1980. Used to live about a half mile from Bobby Hackett's restaurant, but I forget what it's called now. My two sisters still live in the area.
