I'm a young Jag enthusiast from the Los Angeles area, I was fortunate enough to briefly own 1965 Jaguar 3.8 S but sadly sold it last year (due to deferred maintenance). As my modern daily driver is beginning to bite the dust I thought a modern, 2004-2008 S-Type would be a perfect and practical substitute for my old 3.8 S. Thus I am on a search for a clean, low mileage example, preferably a 4.2. Where my search gets picky is I would like a single-owner car with a thorough maintenance history, as this is where I got burned on my 3.8 S. I was about to buy a nice one today in Redondo Beach (with 35k and a single elderly owner), but someone snapped it up by the time I made an inquiry. There are plenty on Autoloader, but with multiple owners, spotty records and accident damage in some case. The few good ones are too overpriced and still multiple owner cars. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thank you for your time!

 

I agree with your thinking and am sorry for your loss.

I bought the car you seek about five years ago from its original owner, a nice lady in her nineties who had driven it 11,000 sunny miles before she tearfully turned it over to me. I have stored and carefully maintained it for you since while putting on another 20,000 miles. Each time I get her out of the garage she still is mistaken for new and gets complemented by the widest assortment of car and non-car people you could imagine. I find it a particularly high complement when my artist friends who know nothing about cars admire the form of her as a thing of art.

The problem is I cannot think of any other car I would rather have.

 

I just bought one similar (2005 4.2 VDP, 13K miles, one owner) to what you are looking for (not this car, but same color). I am surprised too by the number of people who comment on it. Though, I am not sure what qualifies as over priced to you. No matter what Blue Book says, the ultra low mileage ones I found (under 20K miles) were in the $15K range. My simple advice is book market it on Autotempest.com and then use that to check the AutoTrader, CarGurus and craigslist links regularly. Your car is out there.
